Skylanders, Anyone?

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
I said that to my grandson last night after showing him the stuff and letting him know just how expensive this one would be. He *really* wants this and looked *very* sad when I said we were probably out on this one. I reminded him he was very welcome to spend *his* money if he wanted...

Congrats! Did you give him a good Skylanders name? Might I suggest Gator Tot.

Well, my daughter is already much closer to that age, so I'm already prepping myself for that. On the Skylanders front, I think we will get this and a few packs as we decided to turn our back on the lackluster Infinity 2.0. None of the Skylanders have failed us so far on the fun factor and I doubt this one will either. We will just have to be more selective on the figures we purchase. The good thing is that with the GCU 20% off it takes some of the sting away.

I was pretty much on the fence but am leaning towards picking it up. That's mainly because of the enthusiasm coming from my grandson but I've seen a few commercials and they look really cool. But I'll wait to see what BF prices are like before deciding for sure. I don't know if I'll go "whole hog" with figures as I've done on the prior 3.

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
There's comfort in knowing that I'll pay a base of $10-$12 for a regular character (Series 1-4), $15 for a specialty character (Giant, Swapforce, Trapmaster), and $25 for a set (Adventure or Character pack). That's the advantage that Skylanders has over the Infinity crowd (but is on Target with the amiibo crowd). But I'm leery of paying $15-$16 bucks for a set of traps or a pair of minis...
According to the poster that is coming in the game, for each element we're getting:
The only reposes are:
No reposes for Tech, Earth, Undead.
There are 3-5 regular villains per element that can be trapped, with one super villain per element (sans Magic).
But on the poster there are 15 blanks spots... 7 physical characters and 8 virtual.
There are a few adventure packs that are known:

Can't believe that single Marvel Infinity characters are $13.99 each. So greedy.

There are four characters in the Eon's Elite set: Elite Spyro, Elite Chop Chop, Elite Whirlwind, and Elite Trigger Happy.
Traps should be sold in 3-packs and as singles.
Toys R Us will have Legendary figures again -- link: http://skylanderscharacterlist.com/f...for-trap-team/
Legendary Trap Master Jaw Breaker, Deja Vu and Blades (in the first ever Legendary Adventure Pack: Nightmare Express).
Target will have Nitro versions of Trap Master Nitro Krypt King.

Those little minis are nowhere near worth 15 bucks for a 2-pack. At best they are worth 5 bucks apiece, but I think 3 is a fair price considering what they do (actually don't do) in the game. I will avoid buying any of them.

Exactly! Should we go in for this one I'll let the kids buy those with their own money.

It seems like some of those minis are ones that were given away in the past. I'm content with the handful that I have already. Now, if these end up getting marked down to 2 packs for 10 or something then I might grab some of the ones that I don't have. Also, I'm hoping those just stay on the shelves at the price their asking to send a message about cash grabbing. However, there are plenty of fools out there willing to part with 15 plus bucks for what are essentially two trinkets with no in-game value.

There's also word on the Internet that they will have a buddy packs: a full-size Skylander with it's mini.

I figure the old ones will work and they are testing the waters to see how much unessential crap people are willing to purchase. I get the impression they saw how much those "buddies" go for on the third party market and saw a way to get more cash up front. I *can* say that they'll have to do more than just follow you around for me to drop any cash on 'em.

They only go for a pretty penny on the market because they were not readily available. Now that they will be readily available I doubt the public will care as much about them as they are banking on and they will end up as shelf space suckers. Hopefully, this will lead to them being marked down and ultimately for the developers to stop trying to nickle and dime us and just focus on good games with a core of new and creative characters.

re: Skylanders, Anyone?
Target has "FREE Krypt King Sword when you buy this starter pack" listed in their ad for 10/5-10/11 with the regular $74.99 edition. I'm guessing this a trap, but wondering is Krypt King already captured? EDIT: After some more research Krypt King is not a villian so it wouldn't be a trap.
The Target pre-order already gets you Brawl and Chain captured inside a water trap, so they have some incentives for picking it up there.
Currently I have the Dark edition pre-ordered at Best Buy because of the 20% GCU discount, but Target is enticing me since I have some gift cards.
