From the creators of Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera comes The Bard’s Tale IV. Thirty years ago, The Bard’s Tale put Brian Fargo and Interplay on the map and launched a storied career crafting some of the most beloved cRPGs in gaming history.
Today, we return to Skara Brae for the long-awaited dungeon-crawling sequel to the Bard’s Tale trilogy -- the games that helped define the genre.
A single-player, party-based dungeon crawl, rich in exploration and combat
Dungeons filled not just with dangerous fights but with challenging puzzles and devious riddles
Dynamic phase-based combat, where the pace of battle is animated and fluid, but still gives you time to think and respond to your enemies
A game set to beautiful Gaelic music, where the Bard’s songs and melodies affect gameplay
Co-funded by fans and inXile: if this game hits its $1.25 million goal, inXile will put in at least $1.25 million of its own money to double the initial budget!
Built using Unreal Engine 4, for PC, Mac and Linux. Available from Steam or DRM-Free from GOG.com
Available in English, French, German, Russian, Spanish, and Polish
Built for and with the help of our fans. Your feedback and input directly impact the design and features of the game during alpha and beta stages

That is a very good deal at $20. I wanted to pick up Wastelands 2 anyway. Thanks for the heads-up!

That does look amazing... especially for what this is. I'll believe all that makes the final game when I see it released

Bard's Tale is before my PC gaming time, so I'll probably wait until release rather than pledging.
Is that the Unity 5 engine? I've heard is a huge improvement over 4 tech wise, but I haven't seen anything with it yet. Impressive if it is.
Edit: looks like they're using Unreal Engine 4.

Bard's Tale was always a first person game. They've said this will be first-person as well, though it will shift out of first-person for combat. Combat will be phase-based (basically, there's a player attack phase, and then a montser attack phase), so that will feel very different from Eleder Scrolls.

What was the Bard's Tale I played on the Xbox a decade ago? I thought that played like a Diablo sort of game in isometric third-person view (though admittedly that was a LONG time ago).

Re: Bards Tale IV on Kickstarter
The original Bard's Tale series came out in 1985, 1986, and 1988. They were first person and party-based.
In 2004, they came out with a new Bard's Tale (that's what you played), but it had nothing to do with the original three games. So much so that this Kickstarter is Bard's Tale 4, not Bard's Tale 5.

I liked that game as far as I remember. I thought it was pretty fun.

Honestly, I never played it so I can't judge. I know it's got a bad reputation amongst fans of the original series, but I think that's got more to do with it being a departure from the original series than its value as a game in and of itself. If you're going to take a franchise people know and change it around, you'd better do something awesome with it (Fallout 3).

The Bard's Tale from 2004 has nothing to do with the original The Bard's Tale franchise. It isn't a remake, it isn't a reboot, it just has the same name.

Oh, well damn! That explains things then. I always figured it was related to the original games.
