Holiday Steam sale?

Didn't Steam have a huge holiday sale last year? I remember spending over a hundred bucks (many on games I still haven't played) and even though I have been checking Steam each day I'm not seeing anything mentioned. Did I miss it? Is my timing off?

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

This Treasure Hunt sale goes on until December 20th. It's widely suspected that the Holiday Sale will start after that.

Thanks for the info! Wisely thinking ahead I had set some cash aside to splurge on some Steam games this year and as we were hitting Christmas I suddenly realized I had heard nothing about it. Actually the Humble Indie Bundle #2 is what reminded me - they were out at about the same time last year iirc.

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

So someone at CAG has posted a preview of the indie packs. He was 100% right about those packs during the Thanksgiving week sale so you can pretty much count on these as well:
Spoiler:

You guys don't deserve this, because of the way my last leak got ing reposted all over the place, but here, here's the packs that are coming up for the Holiday Sale:

Indie 2D Pack: Bullet Candy, Galcon Fusion, Geometry Wars, Super Laser Racer, VVVVVV
Indie Adventure Pack: And Yet It Moves, Gish, Jolly Rover, Mr Robot, Samorost2
Indie Beat Pack: Beat Hazard, Bit.Trip Beat, Chime, Rhythm Zone, Turba
Indie Brain Pack: Big Brain Wolf, Diamond Dan, Puzzle Bots, Windowsill, Zen Bound 2
Indie Fantasy Pack: Bob Came in Pieces, Fairie Solitaire, Fortix, NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits, Spectromancer
Indie Flight Pack: Dogfighter, Everyday Shooter, Flotilla, Gratuitious Space Battles, Guns of Icarus
Indie Fright Pack: Burn Zombie Burn, The Path, The Scourge Project, The Void, Zombie Driver
Indie Future Pack: Hacker Evolution, Hammerfight, System Protocol One, Twin Sector, Uplink
Indie Heavy Hitters Pack: Audiosurf, Shattered Horizon, World of Goo, Zeno Clash
Indie Kids Pack: Delve Deeper, Crayon Physics, Max & Magic Marker, Secret of Magic Crystal, Toki Tori
Indie Mix Pack: Cogs, Darwinia, Defcon, Eufloria, Plain Sight
Indie Smart Pack: Droplitz, Lumines, Puzzle Agent, Quantz

Indie Potato Pack (yes, that's what it's called, don't ask me): AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Audiosurf, Bit.Trip Beat, Braid, Cogs, Defense Grid, Killing Floor, Red Orchestra, Super Meat Boy, The Ball, The Wonderful End of the world, Toki Tori

All of these except the Potato Pack should be $5.

Also, there will be massively discounted Holiday-Sale-only packs of all of Eidos/Square-Enix's games, and all of 2K's games.
_

Also the Oddbox will be discounted 50% for the first 24 hours of the sale. That includes all four Oddworld games, the first two (Oddworld and Abe's Oddysee) have been released previously for P.C. and on Steam, but the other two (Munch's Oddysee and Stranger) will be making their debut for this sale.

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

Thanks Decker. I will have to check out videos/demos of many of those.

Offhand I remember Dogfighter looked cool. Beat Hazard is a fantastic game if you have a decent music collection on your PC.

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

The Potato pack is undeniably mind-bogglingly awesome, which is part of the reason it's the only one more than $5. I wonder how much it will be...

I have a handful of the games in the Potato pack, there are at least one or two I don't care for and the rest are kind of unknown to me in that group.

What are the standout games in your opinion? (among all the packs - not just the Potato pack)

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

From the Potato pack, some of the good games are Amnesia, Defense Grid, Killing Floor, Red Orchestra, Super Meat Boy and Toki Toki. Maybe more.
Also I like that Max & the Magic Marker game (for kids to play), Dogfighter, And Yet It Moves and maybe Droplitz if you don't have those.
I kind of wish there were more "a'la carte" choices. After a few years of these sales, I have at least one game in almost every indie bundle already (and you can't gift your extra games, unfortunately).

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

I still haven't finished the first two seasons of Sam and MAx but I would happily buy the third season for cheap. My family loves adventure games and we had a ball with the Wallace and Gomit games so puzzle games safe for a younger audience would be awesome.

It is a shame you can't gift individual titles though.

Yeah, that's what I ment by buying stuff "a'la carte". I don't like this new bundle approach. Hell, I already have the first two Oddworld games on Steam, but I might be convinced to buy the Oddboxx because I always wanted to play those other two games and never got around to it.

Sam & Max Season 3 was under $11 over Thanksgiving. It's also currently "free" for Playstation Plus members -- somehow I finally found a "free" game offered up that I didn't already own!

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

Only thing I think I'm really interested in this year is Grid and F1 2010. Unfortunately F1 2010 is only on sale for $20, not cheap enough for me.

Meat Boy is great once you get the hang of it. *cough* It really is a well made, fun game.

Interested to see what the next two weeks bring.

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

Anyone have any other "must play" game recommendations from any of the indie packs? I have a bunch already, but I'd buy a pack if it had one or two worthwhile games that I don't have already.

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

I'm picking up the Indie Mix Pack. I've wanted DEFCON for a while, and heard good things about Cogs. I have Darwinia already, but considering it's $4.99 for the pack, I'll deal.

Wow, Munch's Odyssee is on PC now. I had that game for the Xbox but never finished it. I think I'll grab just that one and F1 2010 for today.

Re: Holiday Steam sale?

Picked up Oblivion Deluxe Edition for 18$ as well as BF:BC2 for $7.

MS needs to take notice and do more of the same on the marketplace.

I wouldn't neccessarily call any of the following essential, but they're pleasant (and sometimes impressive) time-wasters:

Adventure (Mr. Robot, And Yet It Moves, Samorost2)
Beat (bit.trip)
Fantasy (Nyxquest, Bob Came in Pieces)
Future (Uplink)
Kids (Max & the Magic Marker, Toki Tori, Crayon Physics)
Mix (Darwinia)
Smarts (Puzzle Dimension, Puzzle Agent, Lumines)
2D (VVVVVV, Geometry Wars, Bullet Candy)

The servers are getting slammed. Hopefully I'll be able to play some of these games before Christmas.
