Just the system or the game one, too?

System is the only cache I know of.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Well I saw something for the game as well.

Anyhow, I tried both, and played for an hour with no freezes, so it appears to have worked. Thanks alot, slop.

EDIT: After playing for two more hours, doing Dark Brotherhood, and other misc quests, I was still having no problems.

Then I started the Dawnguard quest line, and as soon as I left the castle or whatever, the game froze on me again.

Fuck you, Skyrim.

EDIT 2:

Decided to give it another chance, thinking maybe I had played a bit long last time. Started the Dawnguard quest (the first one), and was on my way to the area. Froze again after about 10 minutes of playing. Yeah, I definitely give up.

I wasted $20 on this shit.

EDIT 3: I turned off autosave and got to play Dawnguard finally.

I was happy, and enjoying it.

Until I started the second Dawnguard quest. Without spoiling things, you're supposed to enter castle Volkihar or whatever. Well I can't. It simply won't let me go inside. I reloaded, traveled away and back. Nothing. So now I literally can't proceed. Total fucking horseshit.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

You're playing on 360, right?

You mentioned that you don't have a lot of save files, correct? Clearing out any excess save files would be the first thing I'd recommend, followed by clearing the cache.

If you're running the game from disc, have you tried installing it to HD? If it's installed on HD, have you tried running it from disc? Some people (including me) have also had better performance when the game was installed to a USB drive rather than the HD.

Do you have a huge amount of in-game inventory stored away? I know that can cause issues with a lot of Bethesda games because it makes the save files larger.

For what it's worth, I've read details of many, many issues related to Dawnguard in the beta forums (and the regular forums after that was over), and I've never heard of anyone being unable to enter Volkihar castle. Is Serana there with you, or has she entered the castle already?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Yeah 360, and it's installed, and I turned off autosave and have 3 save files I manually update. I cleared the cache like three different times.

My save file is 13mb, I don't have any inventory stored in any houses. I have alot on me, but nothing crazy.

I heard that archers could have a problem since the game apparently saves all the arrows you ever shot and they just sit there and take up space? Is that true?

As for the castle, yeah she's right next to me. I get there, she says "we need to talk" and we do. Then the guard says "she's returned, open the gates" or whatnot, and then I can't enter the door. It says "enter the castle" with the A button like all the doors do, but it does nothing.

I have seen a few others have the issue and it is listed as a sometimes bug on the BethSoft page.

I think I might go back and see if I can start before the castle, but I might not have a save back that far now

The only thing I can do is probably wait for a patch. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

She has to go in before you can. I remember her getting stuck for about 5 seconds on my game too, but then she entered the door and I was able to go in.

My understanding is that DLC cannot be patched on 360. If you have 3 saves files, one of them is surely from before you got to that location, right? Might be your best bet.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I just tried again, started from the beginning of the questline. Got to the castle, she never went ahead of me, just stood behind the guard.

Still can't get in.

This totally blows.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Tried again. Waited around. She never entered the castle.

The best part is I decided to head to Windhelm to do a side quest and now the vampire bitch tags along with me. I get there, and like clockwork, the game freezes two minutes later.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I don't know what else to suggest other than deleting the installed game from your HD and playing directly from disc, if you haven't tried that already. It doesn't really sound like that sort of issue, but it's worth a shot.

Sorry.

Yeah, I've heard that an already installed game won't work too well with a new patch. It's recommended that you get the patch, then install the game from the disc.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

That's funny, I am 148 hours in.

I'll delete the game from the hard drive and try it that way.

Can I delete the patch and then re update? If so how?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Uninstalled the game and the update from the hard drive. Reinstalled the patch, still couldn't get in the castle, and the game froze eleven minutes later.

Next suggestions?

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I actually thought about that. You think it would work? How hard is it to buy a cheap Arcade and just install my old hard drive in there? I have the 250gb elite.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I did the reverse (I had a cheap arcade (old version, but with big hard-drive) and transferred everything to a 250gb Elite) and it worked out fine - not sure how the current Arcade systems are though. But the way your console is freezing on you suggests that it's about to fail.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

It only freezes on Skyrim, though. I mean consistently.

I had a freeze on Lego Batman 2, and I was playing Tropico 4 and had a couple, but nothing that was a sure thing like Skyrim.

That being said, it doesn't help my stupid Dawnguard problem

Speaking of which, I uninstalled the DLC and reinstalled, and tried again, and still couldn't get into the castle.

This sucks!

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

Do you have a good pc? There's a way to convert your 360 save into a pc save of you get skyrim on pc. I've had no problems and logged 115 hrs into the pc version. I think the pc version is less buggy than the 360 version.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I wish there was a way to do the opposite. I'd love to play the 360 copy so I can try out the DLC but my save is on PC.

My computers would run it fine, just not a big PC gamer outside of the occasional WoW game or two.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

I started playing as a werewolf a bit to check out perks. So many freeze issues.

It's gotten to the point where I have to save it every 2 minutes.

In fact after a freeze 10 minutes in, I cleared my cache again and turned the game on. It froze 17 seconds later.

I'm done.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim -- November 2011

It's funny I've had a few issues with my PS3 copy but nothing major. I finished the main quest as well as most of the side quests, but just found I lost any interest in playing it. I still will pop in Oblivion and not only find stuff I haven't seen before but will just love wondering about. With Skyrim, yes the graphics are better, and the combat and leveling systems are vastly improved, but I just don't find the quests or the game itself as interesting. Maybe it's that the Landscape of Cyrodill was more varied (marshes, plains, snowy mountains, the imperial city) or it was just sort of that perfect storm that I first played it after having never played a true open world game before (save for GTA) but I have to give the nod to Oblivion over Skyrim. In fact since this Dawnguard DLC doesn't sound that interesting, I went ahead and sold my PS3 copy for like $35 online. I figure if the next DLC is a bigger one like Shivering Isles I will probably be able to buy it cheap by the time it comes out for PS3.
