Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

The Ozzy ones this week were gone crazy fast compared to the Gaga last week. I didn't even have to really try then, but for this I would get things entered within seconds of it hitting my phone, including deciphering the ? clues flawlessly and I'd still get beat.

It's a frustrating endeavor, but there are ways to increase your odds like not relying on the twitter.com website

You have to be extremely fast and extremely lucky. People like Major Nelson have a ton of followers and codes go in milliseconds.
I hear you, Vryce. But the odds aren't all bad. If you are following some of the HMX employees on Twitter that are also giving away codes, you'll notice they have substantially less followers than, let's say, @RockBand. Yeah, you'll still need to be fast, but you aren't competing with the 40K followers of @RockBand...it's more like 3K. That being said, I've never been that quick entering in a tweeted code. My wins have come from either the retweet contests or posting in a forum and getting selected from that.

I'm not saying it's Pepsi cap odds, but you could do worse for the amount of effort needed to enter.

Ah, the stuff I could win for free if my day wasn't filled with all that bothersome "work" taking up all my precious Twitter time.

Is there a post or site I could use to catch up on how to get all these free codes? I, like all of the awesome, work from home and would love the chance to get some free songs.

I went to high school with the guitarist of No Bragging Rights. Glad they're finally getting some recognition.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I would love to see some analysis as to the cost vs reward of developing separate 1x and 2x bass pedal versions of low-demand RBN songs. And even some leaderboard stats of non-drummers as to which version they chose and how it segments the userbase.

It just baffles me.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't take too much extra charting time to add in that extra bass stuff. If I remember correctly, it's actually easier to chart all the bass because there are scripts that can automatically chart the bass drum notes, and then the charter has to go in and basically thin things out.

The implementation is pretty garbage on how they do things though. Especially since they can't really guarantee that the 1x and 2x versions release on the same day. How is someone that isn't constantly monitoring some forums supposed to know that a 2x version is going to be made available?

What baffles me the most though is that I know someone who buys every RBN song, and they buy both the 1x and 2x versions of songs. Even going so far as to play them both on every instrument.

This person is not me. I only buy all the HMX stuff, and cherry-pick from RBN.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

I would hope that HMX takes the time in the future to consider multiple tracks per song. Support both drum tracks, censored and uncensored vocal tracks (I know, I know), etc. There's actually no technical reason why this, especially the drum parts, couldn't be done today. The drum stuff is the same audio, just different mappings. Things like vocals is, obviously, much different and would increase the file sizes noticeably.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

HMX has done the multiple tracks thing before. LEGO had it in the form of the "Short" versions of some songs. Also, RB1 had an abbreviated version of Green Grass if you played it on vocals.

I would love some uncensored vocals, but we know that will never happen.

But I will still try to win Bruno Mars from twitter, if they're doing it and not just handing stuff out at E3.

My younger daughter will definitely be interested in the Bruno Mars pack and also "Help is On the Way". I'm happy when Rock Band mixes in some current music once in a while.

Definitely in for "Grenade" and "Help is On the Way". I might get more of the Bruno Mars tracks depending on what my wife would be interested in singing.

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! /sarcasm. Hundreds of games that drop dirty words all day long and RB worries about song lyrics. *sigh*

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

For a person that only plays vocals like me (for now) the Bruno Mars pack should be great! I've finally finished the Career mode and now I'm starting it over and I'm only going to sing Rock Band 3 songs. Hopefully that will help me complete a few more challenges and climb up the leaderboards!
