The game is scheduled for a spring 2011 release date on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. Unlike the download-only Marvel vs. Capcom 2, this will be a disc-based title. In its current state of production there are around 30 combatants in the game including Wolverine, Iron Man, Hulk, Morrigan, Ryu, and newcomer Chris Redfield of Resident Evil fame. Based on the new trailer, it also seems like Dr. Doom, Deadpool, Magneto, Captain America and Chun-Li could also be in the game. Capcom is still hard at work trying to squeeze in as many characters as possible before the tentative ship date, so there's no word yet on what the final total might be and whether it'll rival the over 50 playable fighters in MvC2. Expect a number of characters to return along with others who have yet to appear in the franchise.

Like Capcom's popular Street Fighter IV, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will feature 3D characters fighting on a 2D plane, he said. The game won't, however, use the same sort of graphics found in Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV. Instead Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will run on an "advanced version" of MT Framework, the same engine that powers the graphics of Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5.

This is great news!!! Hopefully they'll re-release the previous Marvel vs Capcom, X-men and Marvel Superheroes fighting games on the PSN and XBL.

Haven't really been interested in fighting games in a long time, but I'm fucking pumped!

It makes absolutely no sense that this is coming out. I mean, who in their right mind ever thought this series would get resurrected?
God, I love Capcom so much for bringing me fighting games I care about again!
Can. Not. Wait!

So stoked for this game! My random thoughts. I seriously hope they branch out more with characters and include ones like Okami and Phoenix Wright. Sure Phoenix would be goofy, but I bet he'd be fun!

Certainly interested, want to see way more in-game shots though before I decide whether or not to purchase. More characters than 30 please.

Wouldn't be any more goofy than the fan boy character from Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter

Cool. Wait, this is "3"? I think "2" is the one I actually played all the way through so I guess it would be. Anyway, I miss it.

I wonder if they'll come out with a "Super" version a year later that will make the original version obsolete and untradable.

Looks like they're using the RE5 engine, which is too bad as I was hoping this would be a 2D game using high-res sprites. I mean, a fighting game with comic book characters requires hand drawn art. And things like BlazBlue turned out so well, that I don't see why they couldn't use that as a model and have this game be the next step in 2D animation/art. Seeing high-resolution sprites of these characters move with 60 fps smoothness and precision would've been amazing, but I suppose polygons rule the day...

Sweet. I'm not sure how I feel about the cell shaded graphics, but I'm excited.
