Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

So which would you guys recommend: 2DS or the new 3DS?

I have $40 in Best Buy gift cards and am interested in checking out some of the back catalog; I've played around with a 3DS before and frankly wasn't impressed by the 3D effect; I'm also not a Smash Bros. fan so the C-Stick nor Amiibo support on the new 3DS isn't a selling point.

For someone who hasn't owned a portable Nintendo console since the original Game Boy, which is my best bet?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

You can play any game you want on the 2DS for a lot less money. That said, the New 3DS is a noticeably more premium product and the 3D is enough improved that it's possible you'd end up appreciating it.

FYI, there was one publicized restock of the $99 Black Friday 3DS after the holidays. At that price I would definitely go for the New 3DS. Otherwise, it's hard to recommend the risk at the normal price, based on your described preferences.

The screen is bigger on the XL too.

Thanks for the feedback; my girlfriend is interested in some multiplayer gaming, so I think we're going with two 2Ds' instead of one new 3DS.

I haven't held the 2DS but the XL is good for larger hands. Plus you can turn the 3D off, so that shouldn't really factor into a purchase.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Just got the 3DS yesterday. Got Picross e and Pokémon Picross. Enjoying the heck yesterday. I got the New XL. I was surprised that they're hard to find, ended up getting it at $199.99 before tax at Gamestop.

It's too big for my hands, have to play it leaning the bottom on the desk. I'd get a regular size one but you can't find them anywhere and I really don't want to pay $200 for the $99 Black Friday one that sold out 3 hours BEFORE Black Friday when it randomly went up before the announced time (not that I'm bitter ). If I could find a regular-sized New Nintendo 3DS new I'd be all over it.

Love that it tells you how long you've played games. The 3D is awesome but it gives me a headache so so far I've kept it off.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I'm enjoying the heck out of the 3DS. Found ways to hold it without pain. Got it on 4/14 and I've put in 114 hours into it so far. Right now I'm mainly doing the Picross e series. Have completed so far 1-5 at 64:41 hours and I downloaded 6 and 7. Am doing them in volume order and 6 and 7 have double the content (300 and 315 puzzles vs 150 each for the previous volumes) so all volumes should be over 100 hours. Well worth the $41.93. I finally have my game collection. I have enough games to last me a year or two Did crazy overtime one month and covered all games, system, warranty, and peripherals, so I don't even feel bad about what I spent on them. Getting them used whenever I can. So far I have:

Digital:
Mario Picross
Pokémon Picross (bought unlimited picrites)
Picross e 1-7
Picross 3D Round 2
Tappingo

Fire Emblem
Dragon Quest VII
Dragon Quest VIII
Persona Q
Shin Megami Tensei 4
Etrian Odyssey 4
Bravely Default
Bravely Second
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Pokémon Sun
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
Pokémon X

Animal Crossing
Mario Kart 7
Mario Golf

CrossworDS Plus
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Mario & Luigi Sticker Star

Pushmo
Crashmo
3 of those case files digital games (they were going for a buck a piece and I said why not)
Luxor
Bo Monkey Renegade Kid (Tetris-like game for 73 cents, looked interesting enough).
That puzzles and cards game edition game. It was on sale for $15. Just one more Video Poker hand.... although I think it's a crime it doesn't have TriPeaks.

Honestly I have all games I really want for it, other than the other Professor Layton one and the Phoenix Wright one and Earthbound. I'm just over halfway in Picross 3D round 2 so that one and the e series will be my priority now, along with Sticker Star (on World 2). I bought the Action Replay so I have unlimited life and money on that one and it's still hard For all of the RPGs I bought ones that had unlimited health codes.

For Mario Kart and Golf the AR unlocked all courses and I'm enjoying the heck out of both of them. Mario Kart looks fantastic in 3D.

Anyone still playing?

With minimal effort, you can get enough coins through Nintendo's reward service to get the Zelda Picross game for free.

I love my 3DS. Other than my PC, it's the platform where most of my game time has been spent. Mostly Fire Emblem, Pokemon and the Phoenix Wright series.

I thought it wasn't available anymore in the U.S. eshop which is the only eshop available to U.S. models?

Not sure about that, but it is available through the My Nintendo program.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Finally finished Picross e1-e7. 126.5 hours for $41.93, not too shabby For e7 I got all the medals for not using any hints for all 315 levels. I'm 2/3's of the way through Picross 3D Round 2 at 31 hours. Gonna finish that one next.

For the Picross e series, that was 126.5 hours for 1365 puzzles or about 5.5 minutes each. Although it was a lot less because that includes about 10 Micross puzzles which were 30-60 minutes each (or maybe more than 10). Some of the puzzles I had to keep redoing over and over again.

Highly recommended series.

I didn't know LTTP was even available. That was one of my complaints after finishing A Link Between Worlds.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Second game finished. Picross 3DS Round 2 at 71 hours 47 minutes. Hard difficulty for all puzzles and whenever I chose a wrong block, I restarted the whole thing (I did start doing save points throughout the long ones after one of them took me over an hour just because of restarts). I also finished Professor Layton and the Curious Village. Now I'm doing Professor Layton and Pandora's Box and Pokémon Picross.

$1092.98 spent, 198:26 in just 3DS games so far (plus 10 hours Prof Layton) at $5.51/hr
