There are two reasons to get Amazon Prime : Free two day shipping for you and four of your relatives, and also for free monthly book rentals on an official Kindle device. Their streaming selection is pitiful and unnecessary if you already have Netflix. I'm not sure they stream anything that Netflix doesn't.
, yup. That's the other reason. However, I always convinced myself that I can just wait about 5 days (Free Super Saver). But to give it to my parents who also use Amazon a bunch is pretty cool. And I dropped Netflix months ago when they put their head in their ass over how they treat dvd by mail and streaming services.

Discounted Microsoft Xbox Live Points.
So if there's a new release that you want to watch right now, all the providers have around the same price $4-$6 for the HD version of the movie. If you use Microsoft points that you bought at a discount, you may be "saving" a couple bucks.

I just tried to log onto my account on Xbox.com via the iPad and got a "Please enter the code we just sent to your alternative email account" message like they do with Steam. I've never seen that asked before. Maybe that's new increased security since the FIFA hacks, but I thought those were from the 360s, not from PC. In any case, any increase security/ decreased hacking of accounts is a good thing, right?

It's actually not bad. May even be faster than using the console, but that's probably really optimistic.
I used it to launch from QuickPlay PFX2 and HBOGo. Used the on screen controls to start up an episode and saw details and controls on the iPhone.
Pretty nice preview of what SmartGlass will be.

The official Android app just launched as well. Idiotically it isn't able to be located using Google Play's Search feature. You can download it from this link using a browser on an Android device, though. It doesn't have the same device-controlling features as the iOS version, but maybe some day it might.

Well considering the document is dated from sometime in 2010, it's a sure bet that alot has changed and probably will continue to. Though the "Smart Glass" could very well be a big part of it.

Also: since I don't use the keyboard, this has really streamlined the message and invite sending/replying process.

re: The official Xbox 360 thread - the console of choice on nuclear submarines
Quick question! I want to purchase another xbox to be used in my living room so that I don't always have to play in the basement man cave. I know I'll be able to use roaming profiles and the cloud to play my games, gowever, what about dlc? Does it have to exist on both consoles? I'm talking things like rock Band songs, Extra levels in Batman, etc...

Yes it has to exist on the console to be loaded. If you're signed into XBL, you can use the DLC. If you're on the xbox the DLC was originally downloaded to (or DRM transferred to) you can use the DLC, signed in or not.

Thanks for the quick response! How do I copy it to the other console? USB drive?

That should work, but you can always just redownload it too.
Either way, it's going to be a huge pain. Enjoy!

HaHa! Thanks! Good thing is I am not trying to play EVERY game in the living room. Mostly just XBLA stuff and maybe the Lego games. Nothing too intense. :-) Thanks again!

How far from the living room is the man cave? Get an HDMI splitter and a long HDMI cable and just use your existing xbox. No worries about games, saves, DLC, etc.
I'm about ready to wire mine that way. Just keeping a controller upstairs to play it all.

Per IGN:
Xbox manufacturer Microsoft has rejected a settlement offer from Motorola in an ongoing patent dispute between the two hardware giants. Had Microsoft accepted, the settlement would have resolved a long-running court case that affects the future of both Android phones and Xbox 360s in the United States.
For some background, Microsoft previously accused several Android phone manufacturers of violating its patent for ActiveSync, a technology that powers calendar syncing on some Android phones. While multiple manufacturers reached settlements with Microsoft, Motorola (owned by Google) did not, instead countersuing on the grounds that Microsoft is in violation of five Motorola patents on both the Xbox 360 and Windows, including built-in WiFi and video decoding technology. Motorola believes that Microsoft should pay royalties for the use of this technologies.
The case gained attention back in April when a judge ruled that Microsoft did indeed infringe upon four out of the five Motorola Mobility patents it was accused of violating. At that time, the judge decided that a six-person commission would need to review the extent of each infringement, and a decision against Microsoft would prevent imports of the Xbox 360 to the United States. Since the Xbox 360 is manufactured in China, blocking imports would effectively kill U.S. sales of the console.
Separately, an international ruling in favor of Motorola in early May similarly found that Microsoft had violated Motorola’s patents, banning sales of Xbox 360, Windows 7, Internet Explorer, and Windows Media Player in Germany. Microsoft immediately planned to appeal.
Later that month, things looked worse for Microsoft as a judge recommended against continued sales of Xbox 360 consoles in the United States. While this decision was only a recommendation (the final decision will be made by the International Trade Commission later this year), it could have a great deal of influence on the final call.
That brings us to this week, when Motorola offered to pay Microsoft 33 cents for each Android phone sold. In exchange, Microsoft would pay Motorola 2.25% of each Xbox sold (we've contacted Microsoft to clarify whether that's 2.25% of the retail price or of Microsoft's profit per console) and 50 cents for each copy of Windows. Microsoft rejected those terms, arguing that it’s unfair of Motorola to request royalties “far in excess of market rates.” In the past, Microsoft has noted that it believes Motorola should “make its standard essential patents available on fair and reasonable terms.”
What this boils down to is that neither side is willing to compromise. For now, the International Trade Commission has recommended an import ban on all Android devices using ActiveSync and all Xbox 360 consoles until the patent issues are settled. If settlements continue to be rejected, the ITC will declare its verdict to the White House, at which point the office of the President will have 60 days to finalize the decision.
We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment and will update with any statement they provide. Until then, keep checking back for continued coverage of the case as new details unfold.

1. Give Motorola what they want
2. launch the 720
3. kill the 360
And escalating it to the President? I would hope he has better things to do than settle a pissing match between to tech companies.
