I dug through the thread after finishing though and didn't see any mention of it.

I wonder what's causing it, since it doesn't seem like a widespread problem.

Edit: Some quick googling revealed that it apparently is a problem for many people (along with an apparent double-jump glitch that I haven't experienced, but I think a couple people may have mentioned in this thread). Maybe we'll get a patch soon.
the double jump issue sucks...

I didn't experience any of these issues. For what it's worth, I'm playing on a Slim...

I wasn't quite like this - but close at times. Especially when needing to jump to grapple. The whole Chronos part just plain pissed me off due to this issue.

Well, I popped the game in again this weekend and sure enough, there's a patch to be downloaded. I started playing through again and have yet to encounter a chest that won't open on the first try.

Spoiler:
I just destroyed Hercules.
I love this game. Don't even mind that I only get an hour or so a week to play video games. Just going to stretch this one out for a while!

Re: Official God Of War III thread of deserving a 10 not bias journalism

Finished this last week. I'd say the production values are second to none in terms of graphics and sound. The whole way through, it was a gorgeous game to watch and listen to. The gameplay was spot-on except for the double-jump issue, which was incredibly frustrating at times. I must've died two dozen times at the point where you have to rotate and jump across bridge segments. I'd double-jump four or five times on land just to make sure I had the timing right and then inevitably fall to my death when I tried it over a gap. I also encountered a bug several times where I'd die for no apparent reason. It would always occur when Kratos was falling to a new area. The screen would follow the path and move to a new section, but he'd just never appear and after 15 seconds or so, I'd get the 'you died' screen.

Anyway, other than the little bugs, the only thing that bothered me was the hollowness of the story. I got bored with it and Kratos was such an over the top asshole that I really didn't care about what happened at all, other than to see what they came up with for visuals. It's been years since I played through the first two games, so maybe they were just as bad in terms of story, but this one seemed worse to me. Still, well worth playing through just to see the technological achievement and experience the gameplay.

Has anyone bought that documentary Unearthing the Legend that the Playstation store has up for sale? Hosted by Peter Weller!! Ha. Just wondering if it was any good. Is this the only way it's available? Or is this in the Collector's edition set as well?

It's also in the collector's edition. Haven't watched it yet though.

I'm having a helluva time getting through Titan mode. I think I died like 60 times and I only just now got past Helios. Why would anyone play Chaos mode which is supposed to be harder than Titan? LOL

Just finished this, and was wondering if anyone else noticed
Spoiler:
that the when Kratos died, the ground looked like a Phoenix? Resurrection is in his future, or I'm way off base.

Wasn't his body gone after the end credits also? Either way, there's no way Sony will let the franchise end.

I'm not sure how far I'm in...just killed Hermes.

I've gotta say, the first half-hour or so was one of the most impressive setpieces I've ever seen. After that, it pretty much settled into a GoW game, pretty much on par with GoW 2.

I'm not having any control issues...just the usual camera problems.

Re: Official God Of War III thread of deserving a 10 not bias journalism

Finished it tonight...just cruising through on easy. I missed a couple of horns/eyes, so I might run through again over the weekend.

Highlights for me were Chronos/Gaia freaking epic fights, and I'm guessing I liked the Labyrinth more than most. Music games and escort missions, not so much.

The alternative weapons were better than GOW II, but I didn't like the magic spells as much.

Re: Official God Of War III thread of deserving a 10 not bias journalism

I'm at Chronos right now so I believe that I am a good bit into the game. So far, they have gone light on the puzzles, and most have been fairly easy to figure out. The game just has none of the frustrations that I felt in GOW2 such as timed sequences one second delay meant repeating the same section over and over.

The production values are just absolutely incredible. The snake skin on the medusas looks so realistic. Anyone who skips this game is missing out on an amazing bloody experience.

Re: Official God Of War III thread of deserving a 10 not bias journalism

It is a great game with incredible visuals and audio. Its is flawed in some aspects....the controls can be lax at times....i was mightily annoyed with the guitar hero thing not responding at the right time on my clicks. But its overall a fun experience. It really has little depth to it, and i found it easier than anticipated. Fighting Ares at the end of the first game was harder than any of the bosses from the other two games. Its the small touches i love in these games though. Like seeing the body of Ares under the glass floor early in on the game. Good to see a return to the shagging mini-game. Always good for a laugh.

Some may consider this a spoiler, so I'll tag it...

Spoiler:
I don't know if this has been said already, but I would think starting another trilogy with Kratos as the object of someone else's revenge could be an interesting way to go. We'd play a whole new character with the ultimate objective of replacing Kratos as the God of War?

I want to see Kratos take on the Egyptian mythos next. Maybe whoop some Judeo-Christian ass after that.

Destroy all the gods and finish giving
Spoiler:
hope

That's actually an interesting idea...at least the "Egyptian" part. Of course ancient Egypt was before ancient Greece...or at best concurrent.

But a new character...with the God of War name on the box...that could be interesting.

Also, as for killing Egyptian gods, after reading spoilers for the upcoming 2-3 weeks of Lost, my theory is that that's where that show is going.

Plus, they can tie it into Lost.

I wanna see Kratos take on Mantorok next. How awesome would that be! Props if you get the reference...
