How Long is Oblivion Really?

I just started getting into Elder Scrolls Oblivion on my PS3, and I'm curious about the game length. How long would it take me to go through the main quest? I've heard of people spending 500 hours and the game being endless. How is this possible? Looks likeit would get boring after you done all the quests.

On the 360, I knew what I was doing since I had played quite a bit before on PC, and basically went straight for all the achievements, no milling around....and it still took me 30 hours to complete (including Shivering Isles).

Potentially forever, depending on what you believe.

That said, I'm also mildly curious, I never got into the game in part due to how long it was supposed to be.

Re: How Long is Oblivion Really?

Well, there are 18 quests in the main story, but there are over 180 optional side quests (this includes all the guilds). I don't think that number includes closing 50-60 Oblivion Gates that may appear. Then there are the expansions...

BTW, which version do you have? If it includes The Shivering Isles, you may want to avoid becoming a vampire. Read about the bug here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Vampire_Cure It's a walkthrough for the quest, but just skip down to the section called "PS3 GotY Vampirism Cure Notes."

Re: How Long is Oblivion Really?

I easily have 200 hours in the game. The first run through I had 100 hours in when my character got deleted. I started over with a couple different characters and have over 50 hours on each, but with them I was just going for story/achievements, no real 'wondering around'. I did all of the extra stuff as well (KotN, Mehrune's, SI). This was my first real sandbox game, and it was a great one.

I put in 50 hours at least. That was finishing the main quest, guilds, arena and expansions. I did a few of the side quests but not too many. I would avoid becoming a vampire as well. Makes traveling a real hassle (night only while outside).

You can reach the ending in a day or two if you ignore everything else.

I think it's fair to say you can get 40 hours out of it if you do the main quest, a handful of sidequests (as in you don't go looking for them) and maybe a guild or two.

Re: How Long is Oblivion Really?

I clocked in at right around 40 hours. I did just about every achievement track and skipped the other side quests.

I agree, but the reason I was saying he wouldn't want to become a vampire is because he cannot complete the quest to cure it in the PS3 GOTY edition (or original disc with the standalone Shivering Isles) without a complicated workaround that requires the original Oblivion disc. The Vile Lair is not available on the PS3, so that isn't an option either.

I am at the part right after you close the first gate. The game hasn't been as fun as I thought it would be. Is there anything I should do (quests etc) that would make the fun factor spike?

Re: How Long is Oblivion Really?

I spent 200 hours or so, and was maybe half way through.

But I'm the type that likes to do everything, all the side quests, find all the bonus items, etc. Also, I tend to spend a lot of time organizing my stuff. When I stopped playing I had a house where one room was devoted to armor, one to weapons, one to potions, etc.

A lot of the side quests are more fun than the main quests. One of my favorite s.q. was one where you

Re: How Long is Oblivion Really?

If you stick to the main storyline quests then you could probably beat this game in about 8-12 hours. Its all the extra stuff you can do that makes this game fairly long and enjoyable.

Re: How Long is Oblivion Really?

That's what I heard. But even if you beat the main storyline, you can continue, right?

How the heck do you level up? My character is still level 1.

It's been a while since I played, but I think you need to sleep to level up.

Ya, when you level up it says something to the effect of once you rest you'll level up.
