MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
![]() '08 Has probably become my most played game of ALL TIME. I can't imagine it getting any better, but then again, that's what I thought when I played 07 --> 08. March 3rd can't come quick enough. |

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
MLB '09: The Show includes the following improvements:
* Road to the Show 3.0: The new version of the popular mode includes an all-new steal and lead-off system, and more interaction with the player's coaches. * Franchise 2.0: Now includes salary arbitration, waiver transactions, September call-ups, and the 40-man roster. New Yankee Stadium as it appears in-game. * Improved online play: Now includes flex scheduling to allow players to play out-of-order games, and Roster Vault option to allow gamers can create their own custom rosters and upload them online for other gamers to use. * Custom Music/Replays: Gamers will also be able to store their favorite songs to their PlayStation 3 and assign them to be played at various points in the game, including a batter's walk-up animation. Players may also create custom taunts. * Hotshot Fielding: The game now includes more dynamic fielder reactions and animations, as well as improved bare-handed flips. * Progressive Batting Performance: Player abilities can improve or regress depending on how the gamer plays. * Post Game/In Game Pitcher and Batter Analysis: Pitch Analysis is a breakdown of all the pitches thrown during the current game being played. Gamers will be able sort by pitcher, LHB or RHB, pitch type and result. This feature is also available for Batters, and the batter analysis allows for a breakdown of how a batter has performed based on LHP or RHP, Pitch Type, and result. * Pitch Grips: The game will accurately graphically reflect the pitch being thrown on the pitcher's hand, and will include 17 different pitch types including five fastball variations (four-seamer, two-seamer, cutter, splitter, sinker), five breaking pitches (10-4 curve, 12-6 curve, slider, slurve, screwball), four change-ups (straight, circle change-up, palmball, forkball), and three specialty pitches (knuckle, knuckle-curve, and the gyro). * SportsConnect Online User Tracking (SCOUT): SCOUT allows gamers to set their game preferences, store them on the server, and then allows the system to look for a Quick Match with an opponent that fits their criteria. * Live Sports Updates: Live MLB updates in-game, as well as SportsConnect Headline News. * Multi-Branch Fielding: Players can now take full control of fielders and break out of any animation in the process. * Adaptive Pitching Intelligence (API): Catchers will call the game based on individual strengths and weaknesses of each pitcher and analyze tendencies of batters. * Pitch Command System (PCS): Pitchers' abilities to throw a specific pitch change depending on how often the pitcher throws it. * Revamped Umpire Personalities: Umpire personalities have been tweaked further. |

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
I wonder when people will stop saying that's the best baseball game ever. MLB 08 was the best baseball game I ever played, and even MLB Power Pros 2008 was more fun than MVP 2005.
Don't get me wrong, MVP 2005 was great. But it's worn out its welcome. |

Its because he doesn't own a PS3 I'm betting.

Very nice - I JUST finished my season playing '08 (I'm a casual player, but I did eventually get through the whole season) so I am ready for the new version

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
Yep. And I don't have enough incentive to buy another $400 machine to get one game. I played MLB 06 when I had a PS2 and it was good, but I got rid of it when I upgraded. So...

well thanx for weighing in on a thread that was somewhat specific to a game on a $400 machine you don't need

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
This game is gonna be the balls. This series beats the MVP series hands down. Why does someone who does not own a PS3 feel the need to chime in about this game. Are you the type of person that records your own voice so you can go back later and listen to how cool you sound? Funny to call someone a fanboy when clearly you are a MVP fanboy. To the extent you post about it when no one else is even talking about it.

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
The only modes I play in The Show are Franchise and Road to the Show. So I'm happy as a pig in shit at how deep they're going with Franchise mode this year. My biggest gripe (with all sports games) is that player personalities never really seem to be in the mix. They say it has been revamped but we'll see how it effects the game. Other than that I'm really happy to see things such as salary arbitration and 40 man roster added this year.
Also good to see they changed Road the Show a little. It was a fun mode but having to hang out on the basepaths sucked. I'm happy to see that has changed. Is it March 3rd yet?

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
I'll give MLB '09 a shot to see what improvements have been made before loading up my MVP '05 on Xbox. I love alot of things about MLB The Show and in some ways its better than MVP '05. I still prefer MVP's Dynasty mode to The Show's Franchise mode but we'll see what changes are made to it for '09.

Not particularly. Just a little bitter about exclusive agreements for sports games and the fact that the 2k series is godawful when it comes to baseball.

Re: MLB '09: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP) - March 3rd
As an owner of both systems, this is the only thing the PS3 has going for it.
When sports games are absolutely getting worse and worse (sans Tiger), MLB The Show is borderline flawless. Can't wait to get a new Franchise going... |

I was going to say, as someone who only owns a Wii/360, this is the only game I'm really jealous about missing out on.

As someone who owned all 3 (yes, I only miss Mario Kart) and considers himself pretty objective, this is the only game you should miss on the PS3. It is really that polished. Any other PS3 exclusive has a 360 counterpart that is either far better or near comparable. The Show has no comp. And it isn't even close. |

Loving 08, but will probably wait until 09 gets cheaper. I still have a ton to do in 08 though I'm addicted to Road to the Show and haven't played much else.
