I still say Doom would've been perfect for at least a two player co-op....I'll check Amazon later when I get home. Thanks for posting the Amazon deal.

I just don't like having to swap discs out. I'm not one to ever sell my games after I'm done with them, so it's just more convenient for me to have less clutter

I also greatly prefer digital because I don't trade my games in often, and because lazy.

All of that and if there is a successor generation, we've already seen how easy it is to maintain a digital library through backwards compatability.

For me phone games really converted me to preferring digital. As the collection gets very large, the digital collection is much easier to manage than a physical collection. If Xbox moves to a model like that for their games with iterative systems and all of your games work going forward (which looks kinda like what they are doing), I will be super happy.

That's been the talk for a while, both the Xbox One and PS4 are trying to mold themselves more into PCs in the living room with a Steam-style digital game collection and iterative releases of the consoles.

I'm all for it.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

I wonder if GCU way back in the day was a preemptive attack on people going all digital. It certainly is one of only things keeping me buying physical, because if they were the same price, I think I prefer digital too just for ease of use. The games fully install anyway so you still use up space on your console, there are huge updates so the disk by itself is useless if the servers ever go away and you need to reinstall a game, and the cases are barebones with no instructions or anything. Heck sometimes I buy a cheap digital copy even when I already own the physical (sometimes unopened).

I only go digital for games I know I'll never trade in or get tired of. Something with replay value. Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, Rock Band 4, Deus Ex, stuff like that.

People seem to have forgotten that the whole reason Microsoft is in second place this generation is because they originally were planning on having the XBOX One be digitally only and the internet blew a gasket that they no longer could buy and sell used games so Microsoft went back on it. No way do they go digital only after that nonsense unless Sony does first.

To be fair, Microsoft's team fumbled horribly with the way they handled all of that, from the announcement to the retraction and everything in between and for some time after. The incompetence of their PR team was astounding.

I was totally on board from day 1. But I'm not the play-and-dump Gamestop market.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

I dump occasionally, I just wasn't on board with all digital because of sales/discounts. It's still far easier to find a deal on any given game than on the same game digitally(see Doom discussion above). There's little incentive for a company to offer sales if they have zero competition, and too easy to slide into price fixing (see the digital book market).

Plus so many games I try to rent first.

If the Xbox had truly gone Digital-only, there would have been no way to ever rent a game. I wasn't down with that at all.
I do prefer the convenience of digital, but not at a higher price.

They also don't have inventory concerns.

Which makes the higher pricing even more ridiculous. No pressing of discs, manufacturing, shipping, etc. All those costs should come as a savings for digital consumers, but of course those savings aren't passed on.

Yes, it's the eternal physical-vs-digital pricing conundrum.

That's more so the B&Ms don't revolt, I think.

I was one of the vocal opponents of Microsoft's plan to make the One digital only for exactly this reason. I actually quite like digital games, they're convenient and make it easier to manage libraries. But if Microsoft or Sony become the only source for games, then goodbye to real competition. I generally only buy digital games if there's a big sale. Otherwise I can almost always find it cheaper physically, which makes no sense but that's where we're at.

Until they lower digital prices to about 50 bucks, they can kiss my physical ass with their digital lips.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

I've always supported digital, and still do on consoles. Prices could be cheaper overall, but honestly I see enough good deals in general coupled with the benefits that I'm not significantly bothered by the difference versus physical in a lot of cases.

Hell, Gamers Club Unlocked equates to roughly B4G1 free for new $60 games(assuming my math is correct). That's just hard to compete with, even other B&M retailers. K-mart and Amazon $20 deals.

Re: The Video Game Deals Thread

maybe it's me....but I was looking at the Best Buy ad today where they have the Pre-Order Rewards for upcoming games...and everything listed is some "Deluxe, Legend or Ultimate Edition" at $79.00 or more. I wonder if Best Buy will just offer the GC deal on these versions only for now on....

Nope. It's all versions of every game in the offer.

I feel the same way. Until gaming companies can pass on the savings to consumers, I will continue to buy a physical copy of the game.
