I think games deserves a thread here. An iPod Touch was my early Christmas present and I'm loving the thing and have bought quite a few games for it. The masterpiece so far is Rolando. It is a clone of Loco Roco, but honestly it is a much better game. Instead of the frustration of using the L and R you have real tilt control that actually works. It has received amazing reviews from places like IGN and is well worth the $9.99 price.

Topple is another fun time killer game. It is physics based and uses tilt control and has you trying to build towers quickly out of tetris type blocks. It is free right now and also from the developer of Rolando. Pick it up for free.

If you like game shows I was very impressed with Price is Right. I picked it up for $2.99 and was surprised by the polish. They have video from the show, most of the games, the wheel, the showcases and everything. Some of the items are a bit out of date but I found it very playable. Like many iPhone games it has achievements and a couple of good play modes.

I picked up Glyph when it was $1.99 and love it, but I think it is back to $4.99. They have taken the concept of Sega Swirl and added some impressive features and levels. Power ups, many levels to complete and some decent in game music.

Another great puzzle game I picked up free that is now 99 cents is Tanagram Puzzle Pro. Okay it is just Tanagram puzzles, but this is a great version of it and has a large number of puzzles. Very nice touch screen controls. A solid game for a dollar.

EA has several games and I have liked the ones I have picked up so far. They are pricey though so wait for sales. I picked up Yahtzee Adventures on sale and found a very solid Yahtzee game with a decent single player challenge mode to play through. I also like their version of Sudoku, but there are free versions of this on the store as well.

Spore Origins I got free with my iPod and it is a decent game to goof around with. I would not recommend it though for $7.99. There are better things to play on the store.

I'm trying to think of other must owns. I would say Enigmo for puzzle games as it uses physics based puzzling very well and Burning Monkey Casino if you want a nice 99 cent app with slot machines, video poker and nice polish. Bejeweled 2 is a great game, but on many platforms. This version is very good though. Apple's Texas Hold em game is another really good one. Video captured opponents and very tough AI. It is $4.99.

I got to try Super Monkey Ball and i Love Katamari and didn't like either one. Monkey Ball's control felt off and Katamari seemed really buggy. I wish more games like this had demos we could try first.

Darkside is right about waiting for sales. If you use this site you can see when new apps come out, and price changes too.

I actually find myself shopping itunes from here, instead of the program itself

Thanks guys. Now I'll have something decent to play while stuck at those boring family get togethers.

I see people gaming on their iPhones/iPods all the time. With sales in the millions I think game developers are beginning to realize this opportunity. I bet Nintendo is a little nervous.

Any good driving games?

There's a pretty cool game that's a spin-off of Mr. Driller called Star Trigon.

It actually works on regular iPods along with the Phone/Touch and it's only $5.

Blackbeard's Assault. It's a Zuma-type game (and there's rumors that Zuma will come eventually, so this is a nice filler until it does). You swipe the center ball towards the circle balls.

It used to be $1.99 sale price with regular price as a few bucks more, but now it seems they made the $1.99 the standard price. WELL WORTH IT!

spicollidriver THANKS for that links! I recommend everyone check that link every few weeks and select Price Changes, then Free. Found a few free apps I liked, including a Holiday Tangram puzzle game

A great one I found there is an app that sends text messages through email, so no having to remember the @s of the various phone companies. You put your email, the receiver's phone #, and the message, and voila, text from a Touch

If you are looking for Zuma types the "real" game is called PuzzLoop. Zuna is a ripoff of it and Mitchell has developed an iPhone version. Hudson published it and it is on the store for $7.99. A bit pricey, but it has a free demo. Worth checking out. I loved Mitchell's Magnetica on the DS.

I had a 12-hour shift at work yesterday and was browsing through apps when I found ArtPuzzle, a jigsaw puzzle app. It was $1.99 for just over 50 puzzles. The puzzles are works of arts and it gives tidbits about the different art pieces and there's also an art trivia portion of the game (that I haven't done yet).

So I did all 50 at work and thought it was a couple of bucks well spent. Then I realized there were three more difficulty levels and I had only finished the easiest one. There's still hours more of replay with that app and the $2 was a bargain. Hopefully the author keeps adding art pieces to it. I wish there was such an app but that would accept user images. Then the puzzles would be endless.

I love jigsaw puzzle but hate that if you lose one piece the whole thing is ruined and the effort in vain. It's so cool to touch and slide pieces around. Highly recommended.

That sounds cool. When they came out with the puzzle game for XBLA I thought I wanted one for the Ipod . When I have a little more cash I want to get Rolando people can't stop talking about this game

So I searched for Jigsaw and there's a bunch of apps where you can import your own pictures! I just bought a whole bunch of jigsaw apps ($1 most of them except maybe one or two for $2). I was just at Walmart the other day and almost spent $15 on a puzzle pack of 10 puzzles, but the thought of losing the pieces stopped me. I'll give a review of the puzzle apps This little machine is awesome.

JigSaw Pro What I really like is that it has a "strip" to the side with the pieces and you drag the piece over to the puzzle area, and double click any piece in the puzzle area to send it back to the strip to unclutter it a bit. I wish once you find the correct piece that it would stay put, i.e. corner and edge pieces, as sometimes you move a piece you don't want to (but rarely and it's not a dealbreaker). This one is a lot of fun and it was only a buck. I'm just amazed at all the $1 and $2 jigsaw puzzle programs. You can't even find single puzzles for that much at Walmart. I don't know how many puzzles it comes with and the description doesn't specify it either, but this is one of the puzzles you can use your own images in, so once I'm done with the built-in ones I'll try that option.

Edit: It seems to come with 26 pictures built-in, and you can go to your photo library and "save" pictures to the built-in library. I chose a background picture and it's hard as hell It works really well. Now I can get a bunch of puppy pics Can I hear an "awwwww" ?

I'll be posting jigsaw puzzle reviews as I play them.

I cannot recommend Blackbeard's Assault ENOUGH for $2 (get it). Finished the easy and I'm stuck on hard now (and then there's expert). Even once you finish it there's still the replayability factor. It's a Zuma-like game (which will come out eventually).

Are you referring to Crazy Penguins Catapult? Played the lite version some, will try it more tonight. Might get the premium for $3 tops, this is not a $5 app for me.

P.S. When I wrote "I can't recommend Blackbeard's Assault for $3" I forgot to put ENOUGH after recommend. I HIGHLY recommend it

I got Tetris for $5 (regular $10, on sale now). It is the bomb. You swipe to move across and down, tap to rotate, and it has power-ups like bombs. I didn't think I would have so much fun with it. Totally worth it. Also got Bejeweled for $3 (I wouldn't pay more for it). The only games I've paid more than $3 for are Tetris ($5) and Crash Nitro Racing ($7 or $8). I wanted a racer and decided to get the most recommended one and be done with it. I think $3 is the sweet spot for games (the more involved ones, with others being $1 or $2). If your game is good you'll get the money by the sheer mass of downloads.

I got Tangram Puzzle Pro for a buck and it came with 360 puzzles. I just updated it and now it's up to 420 puzzles. I've done one I have an XBOX 360, a PS3, a Wii, a PSP, and a DS (and a PC, of course), but this thing may become my gaming device of choice. I'm a puzzle freak and there's tons of puzzles for this one. There's Tangram Puzzle Lite to try it out but for a buck, get the 420 puzzles (and they seem to update it fairly often). They have the Holiday Pro Edition for free for a limited time, so run and get it (over 70 puzzles). Neves has competition!

I just took my DS with me on holiday, pretty much only to play Sudoku on Brain Training. Now I've bought a iPod touch and downloaded a free Sudoku which has a better interface than the DS one! Maybe my DS has just become obsolete.

I love Tangram Puzzles, but had no idea there was a free Holiday version. Thanks for the heads up on this one. I'm halfway through the 420 on the original one.

I tried the Catapult Penguin thing, but it wasn't for me. Nice it had a demo. Got a solid review from IGN and is worth checking out.

What's the app name for the arcade bowl one? I love skeeball! I found "Boardwalk Bowl" (skeeball) for a buck.

The penguin one was alright but I would never get through all the levels so I'm just keeping the free one.

It sucks that there's an app limit. Think Apple can fix that with a firmware upgrade? I'm almost full and it's all stuff I love! I have NINE spots left after adding Scrabble and Boardwalk Bowl.

Edit: I unchecked "Sync apps" and it warned me that all apps AND THEIR DATA would be deleted, so if I ever uncheck one I have to start all over. Do the 420 Tangram puzzles again? Have to redo Blackbeard's Assault? Have no puzzles completed? Apple better update the firmware to include unlimited apps....

There's an app limit? I just got my ipod so didn't know about that. What is the limit? Sounds inconvenient. I've got a 32g too so not like I'm hurting for space.

168 or something like that. The limit should be the available space. I could live with just checking what I want to take with my as I don't play that many games at a time, but it erases any progress made and that's a huge no.

And battery life is atrocious. Last night I got the 20% warning after 4 hours of gaming.
