Hmm...see, i changed my answer to that question like 5 times before submitting the PM. I came up with like 10 different ones that I felt would be more "forgotten" but all of them can be played with the standard controller, except for one, which fit the "required" part...
I can't wait until the deadline so we can start discussing. I'm dying to know what other people put for that one...and then there's the "attachment" part, which added a whole other category...

I didn't have the balls to go with steel battalion as I thought it was the most obvious choice for internet nerds like us. So, I went with Donkey Konga 2.

All of my answers seemed like the incredibly obvious choice. I was completely second-guessing myself: "I'm going to say M. Bison. But everyone else will say M. Bison, so I'm going to say Ryu because he's so obvious. But everyone else will come to the same conclusion, so I'm going to switch to Sagat. But everyone else will ..."

Donkey Konga
Mario Paint
Odama
Buzz
Scene It
Samba De Amigo
NiGHTS (the original shipped with the 3d controller)
Ridge Racer with the JogCon
Virtua Cop
Virtual On (Twin Sticks!)
Steel Battalion
NES Track and Field
Diamonds to Demons (atari)
DDR
Sega Bass Fishing
etc etc.
and then settled on...Gyromite. Because it fit the "requires" component.
Then I thought "attachment"...and that started a whole other train of thought, because technically, the Sega 32X or Sega CD were attachments. Which led me to Star Wars Shadows of the Empire 64, which used the memory expansion for the N64, or something like any of the SNK games on the Saturn, which required the RAM cartridge. Also thought about the NEC Turbo-CD add-on, and even the Sega Master system converter for the Original Game Gear and for the original Genesis...and the card reader game for the gameboy...it just went on and on.
Maybe I'm nuts

Second, technically you don't need to use the robot for Gyromite. You can just press the buttons on the second gamepad to raise and lower the gates.

Awww fuck...I knew I should have gone with something like Doom for the 32X, because the 32X was REQUIRED to play it.
Yeah...you're right.
Yeah...you're right.

Gyromite apparently left lasting impressions on all of us.
I didn't think I'd be the only one, but damn. All my brain could come up with was Duck Hunt or Gyromite.

I think the wording of the question threw a lot of people. And I'm also betting that most of us thought "oh...everyone will pick DDR or something, they won't think that far back into gaming lore" and went to gyromite.
I'm suspecting the same thing went on with the FF game question, and the nintendo portable question (I answered Crystal Chronicles and Virtual Boy, respectively)
