Re: Diablo III
I believe the practice actually started with Ultima Online in 1997. I know people back then paid hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars for in-game items and characters. It was insane.

Re: Diablo III
This is the thing I hated hearing about the most with D3; I was excited about the regular AH, but not the $$ one.

Re: Diablo III
Don't forget houses/property. People were selling islands for thousands of dollars. Second Life made that really popular too.

Re: Diablo III
Just preordered my copy. Probably playing with at least one or two other people, so it should be fun.

Re: Diablo III
I can't decide if I want to keep my CE pre-order or just stick with the regular version.

Re: Diablo III
i'm doing the CE. i'm half tempted to buy both and keep the CE around sealed, but if the thumb drive is as cool as the SCII one is, i'll use it. now i will have an extra D2 key laying around though

Re: Diablo III
Does anyone know if there will be specific servers that you will have to choose to be able play with your friends? (Like on WOW, you have to pick a server to play on and if your friend pics a different server, you cannot play with them.)
Also, are there user names like WOW? So if I name my Diablo Character Buddy, will that name be used so no one else can use it? |

Re: Diablo III
There is one server for each region, so unless your friend is on a different continent you're fine. You can play on other regions as well, but you'd have to roll a new character.
You can name your characters anything you want. |

Re: Diablo III
Is there not a US West and East server like they had back in the day?
I want to say that the character names were unique to each server, but it has been so long since I have played D2 I don't remember. I do recall that you had to look up friends by their account name and not by character name so that might not be the case. I traded in some old games and bought my copy last night. I can not wait. Too bad they are not including in game voice chat, guess I will have to download Vent/TS again.

Re: Diablo III
Should I delete my Diablo III beta program, or will the actual game key "unlock" the previous download like an XBLA demo? Anyone know?

Re: Diablo III
You will need to uninstall and download the client again.
If you want a jump start on things, you can download the installer now: http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comme...oad_links_all/ You won't actually be able to run the installer until tomorrow at 8:01am PST. More info: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/5338...-5_7_2012#blog |

Re: Diablo III
So I was bored and downloaded the Diablo 2 digital file from Blizzard ($10). Boy, that game hasn't aged well. I don't remember it looking that bad. Tried out the necromancer, and once I had 2 or 3 skelly minions, I couldn't even figure out what I was supposed to be clicking anymore, the screen was just a mess of pixels. Fared a little better with the barbarian, but had to quit after about an hour, as my clicking finger gave out.
Forgot what a finger workout this game was! |

Re: Diablo III
There's a high res mod for Diablo 2, maybe give that a shot?

Re: Diablo III
Is there a version that works with the latest patch? it kind of sounded like there wasn't. I'm a little wary of that anyway, I was reading there were some versions of the patch out there with a virus in it, not sure if it's worth the risk if there's no "official" patch server

Re: Diablo III
I think I've decided on my first character being a Witch Doctor.
I'm keeping the installer open so the download will start as soon as it's able. |

Re: Diablo III
i hope they have a demo online tomorrow. i tried the beta that weekend and it was choppy, but it wasn't supposed to optimized. Plus my laptop is weird about switching from my integrated card to my NVIDIA card. This would be my first PC game purchase in like 15 years. LOL
is a 3 button mouse required? i have an old cheap two button one that I could use with my laptop. I think I would have trouble just using the laptop sensor to control the game

Yeah, the servers won't be online until 12:01 AM Pacific time. Asia regions have launched though.

Re: Diablo III
Damn them and their Pacific Time launch. No way I'd be able to stay up till 3 to play an hour or two tonight. Wouldn't be an issue if I could log in at midnight local time.
