Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

Yeah it was bad before, but you'd think they would have had enough time to do a better job this time...

I hope this has the RPG / open-world elements gearbox put into Borderlands.

I wouldn't expect anything like that. I think all they did was clean up what 3D Realms started. There wasn't a deep dive into the core of the game.

Maybe in Aliens: Colonial Marine.

Yes. I didn't like the voice acting back then and I don'tt like it now. Just because you're being deliberately chliche doesn't mean you have to sound like you're half asleep and reading your lines for thhe first time. Just look at Kurt Russell in Bigh Trouble In Little China and Bruce Campbell in Army Of Darkness (the latter of which Duke borrows some of his lines).

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

I was obsessed with Duke Nukem 3D and 64 as a kid. I put countless hours into each version. So, I'm really looking forward to this one. It'll most-likely be a day one purchase. Hopefully it'll be a lot of nostalgic fun.

I guess I don't see the problem here. Most of the voice acting in the last true duke game were mostly one liners, and cool ones at that. It wasn't like he was doing a whole story narrative with his voice. Can you imagaine if they would have totally changed his voice? People would have been crying out that it wasn't truly a duke game because the character changed too much.
I got a smile listening to the trailer because it reminded of the good times I had with duke 3d. This game is due to fail if its not even out and people are already complaining about something as trivial as a voice over.

I wonder when those vocals were recorded and how much digital space was saved with modern audio compression techniques.

In short, I always thought the VA for Duke Nukem was terrible. The lines were funny despite the lousy delivery. I don't mind keeping the actor but wish they would have worked with him to not sound completely phoned in.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

I've always liked the Duke Nukem voice. Hell, I still drop some of his one liners (to the befuddlement of many). In the past 12 years I've moved far far away from FPS, but I did like Borderlands a whole lot, so I might pick this up.

It seemed like they didn't showcase any new weapons or anything though. Unless I missed it, everyone was in 3D.

That trailer was fun actually! If it gets good reviews, I may just pick it up.

Yeah, I'm getting that... just hoping the MP turns out to be as much fun as Duke Nukem 3D.

was watching GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley and head of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, said single player is 16-18 hours. not too shabby.

That's actually pretty good considering most FPS games average 6-8hrs to complete.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

Duke Nukem opened the 14th annual Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony.

I liked the bit about the power armor.

as long as it keeps the fun and inventiveness for that long, that is excellent. considering Gearbox's other FPS shooter recently, Borderlands, was 30+ hours in single player and was thoroughly enjoyable throughout is a very good sign.

By its nature, an open world rpg game is going to always be longer because of all the travel time, crossing over the same part of the map multiple times and fetch quests that would be boring if not for the exp and loot you gain. A game like Duke will need to work harder to keep it fun for 18 hours. Gearbox hit a out of the park with Borderlands, but many of the things that made that game a blast will be missing from Duke. The game they made before that, the last Brother in Arms game, was actually kind of crap. Both games, Borderlands and Brothers, suffer from repetitive combat....but when put into a role playing game, were there is small rewards for that repetitive combat, it makes the pain go away.

Also, from the videos it almost looks like two different games. Not just graphics which suck in some shots and look amazing in others, but also the way the game plays. I don't know how much of the game is Gearbox and how much is all the work before they picked it up.

All that being said, I have the Balls of Steel edition on pre-order....

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Footage

Single player definitely looks like it's going to be fun for laughs/nostalgia factor. I'd like to know more about multiplayer.
