When we were first hooked on Wii Sports, the golf game just had me salivating over when a Mario Golf with those controls could be like. Hell, I'd at least concede to a New Play Control version of TT if they don't have a full-out sequel planned. But yeah, it's a strange omission for sure, given the nature of the controller and all.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

I have a question about the virtual console.

I picked up Actraiser, Punch Out etc. and I'm confused by the presentation. The screen appears to be very zoomed in, is this configurable and if so where or is this simply how bad these games look on a modern tv?

I was shocked by Actraiser, I thought that had good graphics in the day, the screen looks very stretched/zoomed in.

Do you have your Wii hooked up with component cables to an HDTV and set to widescreen output? If so, the VC games get stretched (but not zoomed in) to fill the screen. You can change the Wii settings to show them in their original 4:3, but it's a bit of a hassle.

Golf and Tennis are glaring omissions from the library.
My fear is that what Nintendo is doing is intentionally spreading out their releases because there are so few of them a year. They really kind of had a real strong first couple years with Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Metroid, Smash bros. all the big releases were within the first couple years and now we get very little in the way of major releases.

Ah.. that does make some sense. Yes, this is the case, I have it hooked up with component and displaying widescreen.

So you need to manually modify the settings each/every time? Maybe if I just change the format of my tv to be 4/3 via the remote it'll fix it and make it look almost as good without being as much of a hassle.

I didn't even think of that - duh. Thanks

That is correct and no, not worth the hassle.

I just use my TV's setting to change to 4:3, works like a charm and is simple.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Okay help me out here Wii people.

I need a few suggestions for Wii games that can be played without motion controls that are exclusive to the Wii. Games that you can sit on the couch and play.

None? There are plenty of games you can sit on the couch and play, but I can't think of any Wii exclusives that don't use motion controls in some way.

It's kind of like asking for a 360 game that doesn't have achievements.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

I just meant games that have non-motion control options. For example you can play Super Smash Bros without jumping around like a goofball...

You can play almost any game on the Wii without jumping around like a goofball.

While not a Wii exclusive, RE4 allows you to use a Gamecube controller instead of the motion controls.

I got my Mario hat like 2 weeks ago. I think it might be my anchor piece for next Halloween.

I only play non motion games on the Wii...and the following are the ones I played, loved, and kept:

1. Mario Kart Wii (classic controller)
2. Nascar Kart (same)
3. Punchout (use wiimote sideways)
4. Super Mario Galaxy (wiimote and nunchuk...there is some motion, but it can be done sitting down)

And the New Super Mario Bros. Wii in a week.

Okami
Zack & Wiki

Neither have "traditional" controls but the movement can easily be done from the comfort of your favorite chair.

Muramasa handles traditional controls the best - it first asks what control you want to use (nunchuck, Classic, wavebird) and automatically sets itself up to be played that way.

That hat came with a sheet with so many disclaimers on it, I was afraid to wear it! They don't really want you to put it on your head.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

I know it's an old complaint, but since it's the first time I've encountered it, can I just say it's silly that Gamecube controllers can't navigate Wii menus and that you still need a GC memory card to play GC games? Grr.

here's a video of the gameplay. the guy did a review of this game when it was still an import title, but it's up for preorder now. Looks....odd

Haven't seen this in person, but it is a bit reminiscent of Star Parodia (which is available on the VC pretty cheap and it is a lot of fun).

One more update, just as an FYI to the rest of you. I finally swapped out the defective Wii at Best Buy (the day before the extended warranty expires), drove home, and called Nintendo with both serial numbers, and the very polite CS lady did the swap in the system. All I needed to give her was a list of 3 of the things that I bought with the old Wii. She said someone would call me in a day or 2 to confirm that this was done, too.

Also, as a bonus, not only is my DLC going to be retained but b/c of the price drop, I got $50 back in addition to the new Wii from BB. Nice.

Unfortunately, the game saves for a few games (mario kart, the guitar games, and something else I can't recall) were lost in the process, but my g/f assured me that we can spend some quality time together to recover this stuff.

So how did you get the swap approved finally? A nice CS? Or did you have a tangible point to make?

And congrats on the extra $50...that is very ymmv and most won't do it.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

(1) a nice CS person (she never hesitated when I told her what I wanted to do, which was the second sentence in my spiel)
(2) I started off by telling her that my Wii died, wouldn't turn on, even at Best Buy when they checked it. This isn't accurate (it was only a dead audio output to the right channel), but, well, fuck it. She created an account for me in their system, took my numbers, and that was it.

re: the $50, the BB CS person told me that their system automatically refunds the difference in the form of a gift card. I guess this could be site-specific, but that wasn't the way it came off.
