Color me clueless. Not the first time, and probably not the last either.

I thought game release dates were never hard set unless the game was largly anticipated (like Mario Galaxy?)

Lego Star Wars is on my Christmas list, but I will be getting Mario Galaxy next week... I think I'll swing into TRU tonight and reserve it.

I'm also looking forward to Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Soul Caliber Legends, and Rayman Raving Rabbids 2. (All on my Xmas list)

Who determines what is and what is not "largely anticipated"?

If it has mario in it, its safe to assume its largely anticipated? I don't know.

Come on, it's not like SMG is not largely anticipated.

No one contends it isn't. There are other games with release dates besides "SMG"...

I've got The Godfather through Gamefly and it's not bad so far. I mean, it's a GTA rip-off using a license (big surprise coming from EA, huh?) but it's not as bad as I thought it would be, primarily due to the interactive controls. Roughing people up and then grabbing them and throwing them against walls with the Wii remote, that's why I love this system!

I just recall trying to get games on the "release" date and when I get to the store they wouldn't have any and they would tell me that sometimes it could take as much as a week from the official "release" date. These days games are more mainstream and I'm sure the retailers get a lot of flack if they don't have the game on "release" day.

Yeah, I guess I thought it was like CDs and DVDs --- release date = "in store on that date."

Clearly that's not the case.

Usually it's really a more of a shipping date than a release date.

How to interpret a video game "release date" (for most releases):

* Game will be available in the late afternoon at Gamestop/EBGames.
* Some online retailers (such as Amazon) will ship it out that day.
* The next afternoon, it'll show up at Best Buy & Circuit City and ship from most other online retailers.
* The day after that is when it'll show up at Walmart, Target and such.

That seems 100% accurate.

I got Lego SW yesterday afternoon at Gamestop.

I got Mario/Sonic at Olympics today at Best Buy. (The guy literally grabbed it off of the truck).

It's OK Pixy. You're gaming tastes will not be maligned by us if you just admit that you thoroughly enjoyed a licensed EA game. I know it hurts, but you can do it.

I was very impressed by the Wii version, but not enough to finish the game. EA got the controls right though.

Well I went to Best Buy to price out HDTV's and left with a Wii. I still have no idea why I got one, I do enjoy playing whenever I get a chance but I don't know if I want one for my own. Too late.
So what should I get in the Wii Store? Whats good?

Same here. I also loved that it was The Godfather and had charactors from the movie.

I still not worth finishing the game though. I'll use it to kill time til SMG.

Picked up Fire Emblem tonight and was ready to play, but there is a bug in the US version that causes it to crash when importing your save data from Path of Radiance. I researched it on Gamefaq and it apparently crashes when you load up save data that was on easy or hard mode. I had save files for all three, but did not want to delete the easy or hard mode saves.

I figure the easy solution is to copy the save and delete everything buy the clear data for normal. No dice though. The GameCube save does not allow copying (god I fucking hate when they don't allow you to copy your saves).

So basically I can start the game without the experience bonuses or wait for a fix which knowing Nintendo will never happen.

Figures one of my most eagerly anticipated games would be a complete buzz kill.

Free Wii Mii Websites, but it's easier to just hook up with some people on here with their Wiis and just grab their Miis from the MiiParade.

By the Wii Store, do you mean the Virtual Console? If so, there's a thread devoted to it right here in this forum. If you mean Wii games, my favorites are in no particular order:
  • Wario Ware
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Super Mario Strikers Charged
  • Guitar Hero III
  • Metroid Prime 3
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids
  • WiiSports (for the extra controller)
  • Godfather

Apparently some new Wii channel is going to be released on Nov. 11 in the U.S. It'll allow people to view and trade Miis, have contests (Abe Lincoln, etc.), and other things.

Not amazing, but it's still nice that Nintendo keeps trying to do Wii channel things.

Really up to you, but, there are review scores for VC games on both IGN and Gamespot. I say look at the lineup and see what strikes your fancy. If you're not sure if something holds up or held up well, seek the reviews. Also, we have a thread devoted stictly to VC releases though it has only been around a couple of weeks. Generally you can't go wrong w/ Metroid, Mario, or Zelda and there are releases for each.
