Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)
Up to having the plasma gun. I'm not really feeling the upgrade system very much (for weapons and the suit), and the little map that they have is dreadful. I'm enjoying the game play decently enough, but the glory kills got old fast. I'm glad that it's fast paced rather then the cheap scares that Doom 3 went with though.
I don't love it (say the way I ended up loving Wolfenstein) but it's fun enough. Glad I was able to buy it cheap on PC.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)
thought this was rather amusing.
love this new incarnation. gets so hard and frustrating at times and i die often, but g-damn if that ain't some fun shit!

What sort of man spends 100 hours recreating Jerry Seinfeld's apartment in Doom 2 — someone who loves Seinfeld or who hates it very much? Doug Keener, creator of said map, claims he "absolutely loves" the show, but I'm less certain. After all, plenty of people like to mess around with custom Doom maps, but not everyone lets you point the super shotgun in the face of beloved characters — characters so familiar you're just waiting for the day you can hang out with them in virtual reality forever and ever — and then reduce them to red pulp.
Well, that is the nature of Doom, I guess, but it makes for a more upsetting game than any ultra-realistic violence could provide. Maybe in the future, Keener can give Jerry and the gang a bit more of a fighting chance: splice Kramer with an Imp, for example, and let him hurl fireballs at you. Or turn George into a floating, ball-lightning-belching Cacodemon. Anyway, until then you can download Keener's Seinfeld map from Google Drive, and hey, at least you get to shoot Newman, too.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)
i just got to Mars...roughly how much of the game do i have left?
man, this games gets brutal, but it is still insanely fun. i really am addicted to the play style, pure run and gun insanity. i die so often and the loads time are a little frustrating, but it's ok...

The entire game is on Mars, did you mean Hell? If so, which time?

Agreed, about half way. I actually like the 2nd half better.

Man, I'm getting my assed kicked. Just in the first mission in hell and they throw many hulking guys with that round head, the disappearing demon and more. Ass kicked! I really hope I don't have to go down a difficulty level. I like finishing games on at least normal...

That or just use the Super Shotty a lot, that's what I did.
That's around the time I got the relic that gives you full life when you get a "bonus" of some sort, like Quad or Haste, be sure to time the use of those as well.

Each enemy seems to be weaker against one gun vs the others, figuring out takes a little work but experiment a bit.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)
so what kind of numbers did this sell? good enough to warrant a sequel?
this has got to be one of the most fun games i have played in quite sometime. i am taking my time and only play in spurts when i am not hot as shit, but it is so worth the trip...

I dunno what kind of numbers Bethesda is expecting, but it is doing alright, probably about 2m sold across all platforms worldwide. But those are just estimates from some unreliable numbers.
I think it's doing well, but I also think they hurt it by releasing that mediocre multiplayer demo well before the single player demo

The photo mode was added last week, pretty neat features.

I can't get past the 2nd form of the boss on level 8. I wasted my BFG charges on his first form, which was easy, but the 2nd form (in hell) is way tougher and absorbs way more damage.

I just stood really far back and used range weapons and gattling.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)
I had trouble with his second form also. Hardest boss of the game for me (and from researching at the time most of the internet). IIRC, there is at least one BFG charge lying around there somewhere during the second battle. Also, when I was struggling with him and did my research on the internet I think I found out that there is a better time to use the bigger weapons on him than other to do more damage. Sorry its been a while since I beat him.

The end of that boss battle just dawned on me, for some reason I thought it was another one. Yeah I just barely beat that one, one last super shotty to the head while he was down.

Re: Doom (5/13/2016: Xb1, ps4, pc)
Finally beat that boss (and it was at the end of the 9th level, not the 8th).
What sucked is that you can't just start the level over again (which I wanted to do in order to save my BFG charges), you can only play the levels you've completed, and even then, you can't continue from there. So I could only start at my checkpoint, which was at the start of the boss's 2nd form, after I had depleted a lot of ammo.
And I beat him, not because I was good, but only because I got lucky. I only had 6/150 health when he died - so it was about as close as possible.
Anyways, on with the game - 4 more levels to go!
