I beat it back in the day. I think I had to use a guide a couple times. The Water Temple killed me. I'm pretty sure I found all the heart pieces, but didn't find all the skulltulas. By the way, in my opinion, this is the greatest game ever made. Obviously, graphics haven't gotten much better over the years, but for some reason (I can't quite put my finger on it) this game trumps every other game out there. At least for me.

For whatever reason this game seems to be held in very high regard even now. I believe it was the first game to ever receive a 10.0 from gamespot. A poster a couple pages back mentioned that he didn't like it and I found that sort of hard to believe because I honestly can't remember hearing anybody say they didn't like Ocarina of Time. Just wondering how many people out there actually DON'T like this game.

I ordered the OoT/Master Quest Gamecube disc at the German Club Nintendo. What's new in the Master Quest?

The dungeons are more difficult, IIRC.

Man, I hated that Water Temple SO MUCH. But, still, this is really one of the best games ever made, IMO, and probably my all time fave Nintendo game (though Final Fantasy 3 is pretty close.)

Well I started playing this again. I saw my old file still exists (I remember I got all but one Poe, found all the heart pieces and actually used a game glitch to get the required amount of skulltulas) but I decided to start a new one. Still loving it after all these years.

I already had the expansion pack so all I need to do is track down Majora's Mask. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it.

Almost a decade later and I'm still stuck in the Water Temple! At this point I don't think a guide can help me because I don't remember what all I've done and haven't done, and how I raised the water, etc.

it only took me a few nights to beat the water temple. just explore every room until you figure out what still needs to be done. once you get the basic layout down, you should be all set. do you already have a dungeon map?

Edit: Here's a useful guide I have used in several other portions of the game to make things move along at a faster pace (i.e., when I couldn't figure out what the hell I was supposed to do): http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/file/zelda_64_t.txt

Was the Water Temple the one where you can drop through all the holes?

I loved loved loved this game and I'm playing Zelda since NES. The only one I never finished was Majora's Mask. I love that Nintendo gave us a GameCube version of this. I played it again a couple years ago and loved it just as much.

I can't wait for the new one. I'm afraid if I can't get a hold of a Wii quickly I may have to buy the GC version.

There has been some talk about Nintendo doing special editions of some older games for the Wii. It would be great to see this updated with new graphics, Wii controls, and maybe some new levels. I still think this is the best game ever made.

I wish they would release a Zelda game for PC. So many childhood memories growing up with Zelda.

That would be great. Like a bonehead I liquidated my N64 and games back in 2000. I'd love to be able to play DK64 and Super Mario 64 again (I don't like the DS version).

Is there any reason we never got an adventure-type DK game for the GC?

Rare and Nintendo went seperate ways so it couldn't happen. Nintendo owns Donkey Kong and Rare made the game. Its too bad because it was a good game, but Banjo Kazooie was even better.

Doesn't mean they couldn't hand off the franchise to another developer, it happens all the time. DK64 was a dry, run of the mill, by-the-numbers adventure game. Very forgettable.

Beat it looking at a guide a handful of times, mostly on the aforementioned water temple which was a royal pain in the arse.

Beat this game and it was a blast the whole way through. I don't think I used a game guide but it's been so long since I first beat it back in like 1998 or 1999. Crazy to think that it's been that long...

Tell me about it, I still remember anticipating the hell out of it, and going in to pick up my gold cartridge. Where have the damn years gone . (I miss being a kid )

I still have fond memories of coming hoem from work at 11:30pm and playing until 4am every night for a month. No one to bother me...

I think one of the best aspects of the game for its time was how expansive it was. I mean it took minutes to cross parts of the land when not on horseback. of course all the Zelda games have been great at creating a sense of scale.

I liked the idea of sailing in Wind Waker, but unfortunately that got tedious after a while.

well i started playing this game again and seem to remember something about that big thing that spins around in goron city (or is it Dodongo's Cavern)? Anyway, you do something to make the top part open up and then dont you have to throw bombs inside from the top level or something? I Cant figure it out.

ign.com has a top 100 games of all time, as voted by readers, and this is No. 1.

I gotta admit, I don't like it at all. I played for several hours and just gave up on it. I really just never got in to it. It's just not my genre. Judging by the online guide I was looking at I was about 1/4 of the way through it when I quit.

Beat it... but the guide was right by my side.

Still, probably the most fun i've ever had with a video game.
