There are probably other threads on this topic, so do a search for a more detailed answer.
Basically, you need a wireless router attached to your cable modem. You will then need to connect your vaio to this router, probably through a regular CAT5 ethernet cable. You should do some configuration on your router (which is usually pretty simple) to enable it to use your cable connection and to have at least some basic security.
Then you have to buy a wireless "bridge" which is a little device with an antenna and an ethernet port. Plug an ethernet cable between your PS2 and the bridge, and configure the bridge to listen to your router. Again, this should be an easy setup. For videogames, and 802.11 B router should be fine and cheaper, you don't necessarily need 802.11 G.
The wireless bridge should run you between 100 and 170 bucks, the router is actually cheaper at under 100.

I have this
Netgear MR814 wireless router.
and this
Netgear ME101 Wireless Ethernet Bridge.
You run your cable modem into the wireless router, then from there into your Sony Vaio. The Ethernet bridge is connected to your PS2.
