Will playing Silent Hill 3 before part 2 ruin the latter??

Curious because I'd like to play SH3 and sell it before it becomes a greatest hits title.

Everything I've heard suggests that SH3 is more of a sequel to SH1 - with SH2 being pretty much a standalone adventure.

However, I've only played Silent Hill 1 & 2 - so take it with a grain of salt, as I've only heard this through reviews/forums etc.

hm, how much of SH1 do you need to fully enjoy SH3? I've never played SH1

Well... you didn't say that originally.

I would assume you'd want to watch Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back before you watch Return of the Jedi, but it's up to you man! I wouldn't worry about it - the stories are all confusing as hell anyway, so they don't make a lot of sense even when you do watch them in order!
