Eternal Darkness: Memory Card bug?

I'm thinking of finally picking up Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube based on the praise here (and being a Nintendo game)..

I've heard there was a fatal bug in the game that could cause your entire memory card to be wiped?

Can anybody shed some light onto this?

No. Spoilers for the game (which I don't recommend you read unless you wanna spoil the fun:
Spoiler:
One of the "sanity effects" involves the game pretending to delete all your saves.

I thought it was a little "funny" that a Nintendo game would have a bug this bad in it.. thanks!!

May go grab the game tonight or something.

That one did get me. My jaw dropped, because it happened when I was trying to save. I thought I hit the wrong button. Truly an oh shit moment.

Here hoping for a sequel.

Well it goes like this.. I'm trying to convince my friend to rent it and he says "Dude, EGM printed this article of games with bugs in them and Eternal Darkness can erase your whole memory card!".. so I dunno.. it IS funny though.

Well, considering it's like $15 I shall indeed give it a spin.

It was 3am when I was playing that game w/ my eyes half open. Then all of a sudden my memory card erases. I was so sad, luckily it was 3am and not 4am, so I was still able to figure it out after a few minutes of pondering.

Actually, ED is the only game that has locked up my 'Cube. And I'm not talking an Insanity Effect here. The game freezes and I have to reset the system.

Oddly enough, I lent the game to my cousin and he didn't have any trouble with it. Hope my 'Cube is okay...

Huh, I played through two of the runes and got through half of the third and never had any problems.

Not the memory card "bug," but I've been having another issue.

After I beat the boss as Max Roivas, I've gotten a lockup two times. It happens during the cutscene that follows, though at different points. The screen freezes and eventually a little banner comes up saying that there's an error and to consult the Gamecube manual.

I've never had this problem before, so I'm guessing it's the game and not the console. And I really don't think that it's another of the games tricks. Anybody else had this happen?

Game never froze on me.

I think I'm the only one that didn't get the "memory card bug" because I've only heard about it from other people.

I've had one freeze in over 25 hours of playing, and it was in a cutscene.

This really is a great game. Not as great the third time around though, but still good. This game frightened my nephews when they saw me playing it. Especially the part with the tub in a cutscene. They actually screamed. Those insanity effects are pretty great. Besides the "memory bug" effect there were a few others where I thought, NO WAY!
Great game.

Well I tried a third time and made it through the cutscene without it freezing, so all is well for now.

beat the game through all 3 runes, and never had this problem.

I definately recommend the game to everyone who owns a cube. its really cheap now, and is one of the best games I've played in a while.

D'oh...Froze up on me again, this time during gameplay. I'm going to have to try some other games out to see if it's game or not.
