Sammy to buy Sega out completly

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=55573

Japanese game publisher and gambling machine manufacturer Sammy Corp has announced that it is to acquire the remaining 78 per cent of Sega's stock which it doesn't already own, in a deal worth 165 billion Yen (1.2 billion Euro).

The news follows months of intense speculation over the intentions of Sammy president Hajime Satomi, who had indicated that a number of different options were being considered regarding the future relationship of the two companies after Sammy bought a 22 per cent stake in Sega last December.

Under the terms of the arrangement, Satomi will head up a new holding company which will effect a merger of Sega and Sammy in October by buying up all the shares in both companies - with Sega shareholders being given 0.28 shares in the new company for each share they own, while Sammy shares will be exchanged one for one.
I can't seem to find any more info than what's posted in that article, but nonetheless, this is HUGE news.

Hmm this might be the outcome of that. Sammy now owns 72%

Sega and Tokyo-based Sammy will form the new company by Oct. 1. It will be 72 percent controlled by Sammy shareholders, the companies' announced in a joint statement.

Not only that, but they must have seen the pictures of the new Dreamcast and saw the postings on the new handheld system that Sega was bound to release!

Maybe this should have been their "big announcement" at E3.

New names. Hmm... Segammy... Samga... How about "Saga"?

Kentia hall is where all the "scrub" game companies and distributors have booths at the E3 show.

I don't really care one way or the other about this. I've never been a huge fan of Sega, and most of their first party games (sports excepted) have been mediocre at best since the Genesis days IMO.

Another Japanese game company. Sammy's best known for the Guilty Gears franchise. During this year's E3, they unveiled games like Darkwatch, Iron Pheonix, and Spy Fiction. I think they also made the recently released Seven Samurai 20XX.

Is that where the Phantom was then?

With those games/series where did they get the money to buy Sega? Must be from other parts of their company?

Isn't Sammy primarily an arcade game developer in Japan? Aren't they also one of the largest?

If Sammy is smart, they'll buy Sega and then take that name, dropping Sammy altogether.

Ok, here is the deal.

It seems everyone is thinking "Sammy Games" has bought Sega. The fact is, Sammy Games (known for the console games Guilty Gear, Seven Samurai 20xx, etc) is just a very small (and new) part of the japanese corporation, Sammy Corp.

To give everyone an understanding of how big Sammy Corporation is in Arcades in Japan, here is a listing of their games...

http://www.sammy.co.jp/english/produ...hers_2004.html

edit:
These are actually just games they have released in America and Europe, the listing of Japanese games is in japanese only.
