Best Video Game Story?

I was thinking about the shitty video game movies to come out and I think one of the reasons is because they keep choosing games with no story. They're fun games to play but I don't think they could make the jumb to live action well, i.e. Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, it's success only seemed to be because of a bounce feature.

But what video game's have the best story?

FF VII and Phantasy Star II come to mind as games with incredible storylines. Either one would have made a good movie script.

I also liked the storyline of Snatcher. Kind of a mystery/adventure story.

I always thought Chrono Trigger (SNES) would make a decent movie, if they would "darken" it a little.

Actraiser. Great story and an even better soundtrack.

If and when they ever finish the Kain/Raziel story from Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver it will be pretty interesting.

Prince of Persia: Sand of Time had a good story that tied in really well to the actual gameplay. Excellent ending that tied it all together.

While I didn't much care for the actual game, I have to admit that the story in FFVII was one of the best in memory.

Chrono Trigger and Vagrant Story also had great storylines, and the Zelda series never disappoints.
