Decided on Gamecube. Price Drop expected?

I've finally decided to get into the console age. Did some research and was 90% decided on the XBOX when I realised that I don't need a zillion titles, I will probably only play a few anyway.

Decided to get the gamecube for MarioKart. I spent numerous hours in college playing this and am looking forward to the new one coming out in November. The other title I would play is the James Bond: Everything or Nothing game also coming out for the gamecube.

Wrong decision? MAybe. But I was perfectly happy on the N64 with just three games: Mario Kart, Goldeneye and Shadows of the Empire.

Part 2 ... Any good deals? IS there a price drop expected?

Thanks ... MM

Refurbished ones at Gamestop are $70. Used ones are even cheaper.

Yeah, but I thought I read a rumour stating the price was going to drop to $99 for a NEW one. If so, the refurbished/used price would go even lower, right?

Where are you getting those prices from btw? Cheapest I found was $89 for a preowned system from gamestop

I doubt that if the GC price drops to $100 that the refurb ones will drop significantly if at all. I think right now the value of a new GC is around $100, only reason it sells at $150 is first because of the bundled game, and now because of the Gameboy player. If you go on ebay, sometimes you can find new ones for around $110 shipped, but no GBP of course, or game.

I think I can safely say that when the price does drop, Nintendo will stop including anything free with the system.

I don't know why you think you're making a bad choice. GameCube is a great console. If a game is released multi-platform, I buy the GC version.

I bought a gamecube with a wavebird (must have) and Zelda for $150 about 2 weeks ago at Circuit City. Keep your eyes peeled for a good deal.

Here's the rumor that I had seen - go to the bottom.

I certainly will be getting a cube in the near future. Go with the system that has the games you like.

If you're looking for solid (non-sports) games you can play over and over, the Cube seems to be the way to go, IMO. I have played the 3 games on my Cube probably 3 times as much as the 8 titles I own on Xbox combined.

Also, I cannot emphasize this enough: WAVEBIRD, WAVEBIRD, WAVEBIRD!!

IGN Cube mentioned in their mailbag that there WILL be a pricedrop to $99 late september. How they know this as a fact I'm not sure. I was a little skeptical but its been reported on other news sites. For some reason I'm leaning toward believing them. But they better be right because I've been telling other people that there will be one .

Where are you guys finding these refurbished prices anyway? THe cheapest I found was $89 at gamestop and that was preowned, not refurbished. At that price I'd rather wait and pick up a new one for $99.

Pixy, what's a wavebird?

It's a wireless controller. No rumble feature though.

The wavebird sets the standard for wireless controllers. You'll never miss the rumble once you cut the wire. Greatest/most comfortable controller, ever (IMO).

What he means is that its a Wireless controller that actually works . It uses RF so it works flawlessly, no need to point at the TV.
