January 29, 2003 - The man responsible for bringing Yu Suzuki's Shenmue II to the Xbox, Shin Ishikawa, revealed in an online interview that not only is Shenmue III in the works but intimated that said Shenmue title will in fact make its way to Xbox.

In response to questions about the next chapter in the Shenmue story, Ishikawa first confirmed that Shenmue III will continue Ryo's adventures in China as suggested at the end of Shenmue II. Ishikawa then made the following promise: "So, I would like to say to the fans: please look forward to more Shenmue games on Xbox." in response to the next level.com's question about the potential for "dwindling interest" in the series.

Sega of America offered no comment on the rumors about Shenmue III other than "nothing has been announced at this time."



While Ishikawa didn't offer a timetable for a Shenmue III release, the confirmation that there are plans for such a game and that Xbox owners can expect more Shenmue for that system is a close enough correlation to cause excitement among dedicated Shenmue fans. IGN will have more on any and all Shenmue games for the Xbox as information becomes available.

This is shocking to me. I don't think there's gonna be a lot of interest for this game, although I am mildly interested myself.

I love the Shemnue games so far. The first is probably one of my favorite games of all time. I also loved the second, it was more epic than the first but i just felt it was pretty much the same as the first just dressed up differently and ofcourse with the story progressing more, nonetheless it was great. Im eagerly awaiting the 3rd, im eager to see what happens, i just hope that its given some exciting new elements to make it feel more fresh from the first and the second which was just a polished remake of the European version. I want the 3rd to make you feel and say, "Oh yeah, this is Shenmue on the Xbox!"

the main problem with shenmue is that it is slow at times, i mean the story and action takes too long to develop. also, the fighting is weak

This is a good idea...give the series another chance and make a game that was developed with the next-generation systems in mind, not a port from an old system.

I think they could do so much better by developing another Shenmue specifically for the XBox.

I'd love to see another one, but I'm not going to hold my breath since the last one was such a poor seller. We certainly need more games like this to help fill out the spectrum.

Yu Suzuki has the ability and clout to work on whatever he wants. Even though Shenmue didn't sell well, if he wants to do it he will.

Good news for fans of the game. I think the third one is suppose to wrap up the story. (could be wrong though)

i think i would like the shenmue series. i didn't get shenmue 2 yet b/c it is still pretty expensive and b/c i'd like to play shenmue first so i could follow the story better (i know about the included shenmue dvd). i was almost considering getting a used dreamcast to do so.

but this is welcome news and i eagerly await shenmue and shenmue 3 for the xbox.
