do you absolutely need xbl to download extras?

or can you just hook it up online and go?

What hardware components are absolutely necessary to use XBL? What would my friend need to bring over to connect for 1 day to download rosters etc., and then take his live kit back to his machine?

Are there any packet tunneling/gateway nexi that aren't microsoft/XBL affiliated? If so, do you have a link?

Well.......

In this Month's issue of Official Xbox Magazine they claimed that if there is something to download from LIVE and some didn't have it than they will include it in their DEMO.

We'll see, I hope that's true.

I don't own an xbox, but it is my understanding that one of you would need an external memory card (that plugs into the controller) to move an xbox live account from one console to another. I don't know about the details beyond that. Again, I don't have much knowledge about the topic, so don't take what I said as the absolute truth until somebody else with an xbox can back me up.

The Splinter Cell extra levels will all be on an OXM disc.

That's not true. A friend brought over his XBL kit and just plugged in the numbers(ISP, router, stuff like that) and had it running in no time.

Well, it IS true, that's how my friend and I both play XBL on my machine. But your way works too, just not if XBL is already set up (you'd have to keep changing the info.)

so can someone give me a black and white answer?

Will each OXM cd have all the extras, or will I have to pay $7 each month?

Black and white answer: I doubt anyone knows (on the OXM issue). Seriously, most of the time OXM doesn't even know what is going to fully be on their discs each month. Best bet would be to subscribe to OXM for a year (cheaper that way).

As for having to be online to get the download...yes, you have to be a LIVE member to get the download unless OXM truly comes through with them.

I don't know about OXM disks, but XBOX LIVE is the only way to download any additional game content.

If you don't have it yourself, then find a friend who can copy his his account to your XBOX (via a memory card). Then you can download the stuff to your XBOX. That's the only way I know of to make it work.

Those XBox Exhibition Games Demo packs come with some XBox Live downloads. The next disc is supposed to have quite a bit of the XBox live data. Not sure what games they will include. Those run about 7 bucks, but they only come out every 6 months.
