Question for game store employees
I was kinda wondering if you think I'd be able to do this.
For my Senior project at High School, I did a report on violent video games effects upon children. An aspect of the project is that we had to get involved with the community in some way, shape, or form. I figured a good way to do this would be distributing pamphlets about the ESRB to various game stores around the area, but I dunno if the stores would allow me to do that. What are my chances? I'm guessing I'd have more success with Mom and Pop stores, but the only game stores I know of anywhere near me are corporate (EB, Funcoland, GameStop... and that's it)

best thing to do is to throw the pamphlets away and just say you did it.
are you asking if you could hand out these pamphlets to customers at the store?
or give them to the store employees?
or give them to the manager?
Customers? all corporate stores would more than likely be forced to have you call corporate to get approval to distribute things to their customers.
employees? again you would more than likely be asked to call corporate to get approval to hand out info to the employees.
manager? probably ok. although most would probably throw it away.
all of this would be determined by the manager on duty who might or might not follow policy since they might have no idea what they should do if you showed up and tried to do this.

I work at gamestop. If you came in and asked to do this, I would say talk to the manager, and he would probably say no. Reason being we already have ESRB pamphlets available at the counter, and we probably wouldn't be allowed to have anything in there from a third party that we had to be liable for. Good luck though.

Well, I went around distributing them today. I went to 7 stores ,all corporate ones... 2 EBs, 1 EBX, 2 Funcolands, 2 Gamestops. Neither of the EBs took them, eventhough one of them seemed to like the concept, their hands were tied by corporate. One of the Funcoland's cited the same reason (they wouldn't even let me pretend to drop it off!). But I was able to give it to 4 stores, and if they threw it away after I left, I do not care in the slightest! My project is done, and I'll get a good grade on it!

Maybe this is me, but weren't you supposed to hand those pamphlets out to the customers. That would define distribution. Also I would think you would have to write a report on this from the experience you were to have had interacting with the potential video game consumers.
