Well, I just got rid of my Gamecube yesterday (not enough games available or coming out to warrant owning it, and the games that are coming out keep getting pushed back. I don't want a $200 paperweight), but Extreme G3 was one of the games I owned for it. That game was awesome. The controls are spot on, the graphics and speed FX are great, and the fact it has a 4-player mode was a major plus. My only problem was the the CPU racers were deadly accurate with the weaponry, but actually hitting a CPU racer was near impossible with anything but homing rockets.
If you own a GCN, this game is a must own at $30. It is the only GCN game I had that I miss (Hitz was the other one, but I just bought the Xbox version instead, too bad there isn't an Xbox version of E G3 though).

I have Extreme-G 3 for the PS2. Picked it up recently for $30 as well.
It's fun. I've played all the Wipeout games dating back to 1996 and have always been a fan of the series. Although XG-3 is not quite as good, it's still worth some of your time. And at $30 I think it's worth picking up.
It's a racing game at heart, and although the weapons add an additional dimension to the game, they are difficult to use effectively. It's mostly a matter of controlling your bike well. The best thing about the game is the real sense of speed you get when you play. You really do feel like you're going really, really fast, especially when you break the sound barrier at 750mph and the screen starts to blur, the music fades, and you feel like you're in another world for a few seconds.
I also really enjoyed the team career mode. Each race has 12 racers and 6 teams - 2 racers per team. You and a friend play together as a team in split-screen format and work together to finish (ideally) in the first and second positions. You share your winnings, buy upgrades together, and support each other during a race.
The graphics (at least on the PS2) are good. The only problem is the background environments are awfully sparse and simple. I suppose it can be overlooked since you'll be mostly looking at other bikers and the track anyway, and they are done well. Sound effects are done very well, but the music leaves something to be desired. It works, but it's not memorable.
If you like fast/futuristic racing games, then it's a no-brainer. XG-3 is the best one out right now. I'm still waiting for Wipeout Fusion, but who knows how long that'll be, if ever.

It's a fairly good game, but I was a bit disappointed by it. Unlike F-Zero X, you rarely see more than 1 or 2 of your competitors on screen at once because the drivers are spread out so far. It's like one 1-on-1 battle after another. It also gets very difficult and frustrating once you get into the 750 class because the computer drivers keep dropping mines all the time. I'm not a big fan of the music in the game, either. But still, it is one of the fastest racing games around and the the tracks are pretty cool. It's not as good as the F-Zero games in my opinion, but it's not a bad choice if you can get it for $30.

I am currently addicted to XG-3.
Definitely worth $30. Actually, I got it before the price break but I like it enough that I don't feel that burned.
I think XG-3 has great style and plays well.
I could pretty much take or leave the weapons element. At times it does add something but since it takes a lot to kill a bike it's really a distant second to upgrading your engine and shield/speed boost.
That said, I do like the Leetch (drains power off a competing bike for your shield/speed boost). I used it last night to get one last extra boost for 1st place.
I'm a racing kind of guy. For what it's worth, I do ride a motorcycle. And I think this game is hella fun.

I've ranted on this game atleast 5 times already in the last month.
Awesome game.
Wait untill you get into the Platnum cup and get a 1500cc engine.
Go antire races past the speed of sound without tapping turbo.
I've beaten it several times.
Loev that game.
No speed like it now days. (yet)
And as for Rockets.... PFFFFT!
Rockets suck.
Save up and make the 1st item you buy the Rail Gun.
Be sure you charge it when you use it.
2 hits kill.
What I do is soon as weapons come online, I charge.
Will charge for a whole track if I have too.
Soon as I KNOW I have a hit (like he is directly infront of me) I let the button go.
BOOM
All the other weapons are Moot compared to the Rail Gun.
Great Game.

Don't know the price of the current GC version. But the PS2 X-g 3 is only priced around $18.99. Certainly would be cheaper to pick up a copy than to rent 5 times!

Okay Spiff... I picked this game up at Target for $30 a few weeks ago, right when they did the price change...
... and I've been addicted to it ever since (that and Monkey Target!)... I love this little game.
I like the fact that its a little difficult, and the weapons are a plus (I'll have to get the railgun). My son (3 1/2) plays it with me. He likes it too. The graphics are great, the controls are great (customizable up the ying yang), the music is cool, great game for $30...
The only drawback (for me) is after playing the two-player mode with my wife for a long time, and then starting my own 'career', I went from being used to the half screen view to the full screen view. It threw me off, but now I'm doing okay.
With the shortage of games right now for the GCN, XG-3 is a great filler, and a has great replay value... (with all the different teams, weapons, tracks, and what not!)
Go get it...

You guys are going to make me go get this game.
Hey Goldberg, what's your high score for a 5 round Monkey Target game? With items on but the wheel of danger off, I got 2300 and a roommate of mine got 3270. I know I can beat it, I just have to have better skills.

By the way, where is XG3 $30 new?
Not here in Los Angeles.
BB, CC, Fry's & Target - all $45 or $49.
(also, I got that charge going on the rail-gun and that does kick ass. I like the rumble feature on that.)
