for all of you (including me) who thought boston public was TOO unrealistic. A teacher at Woodstock HS (suburb of Atlanta) was arrested for having an affair with a student, another teacher was also arrested for not telling on the first one.
I just thought this was a little too weird considering the recent storyline on BP. |

Well, um, its not realistic. The West Wing has a kick ass president who makes great policy that is for the betterment of the people...and it takes place in the White House...hey, Dubya works in the White House. Doesn't necesarrily mean that Dubya is helping the country any. (I apologize to all those offended my political commentary, cause well, someone will always bitch) |

I like the show too, but I sure don't tune in because I think it's the way things really are. I happen to like the writing and characters, and don't care if it's true to life.

I just read an interview somewhere with one of the actors and he said he was amazed by how much positive mail he's getting from teachers and principals. Apparently the show is more realistic than even he thought.

It's realistic
in that all those things do happen in public schools. It's unrealistic in that all those things happening in ONE school, as clemente pointed out, is not likely at all. |

I just read an article that they are planning on making the show more accurately represent the daily happenings in a high school, because there were too many complaints about it being too unrealistic.
Some episodes we have to look forward to: March 26 - Marla teaches a history lesson about Lewis and Clark. A student falls asleep in class. A group of kids complain about the quality of the cafeteria meatloaf. April 2 - A teacher is out sick so a substitute is brought in to explain polynomial equations. The students are confused. The principal appoints a new chef due to last weeks meatloaf fiasco. April 9 - A typical day in high school, nothing out of the ordinary happens. A movie about frog reproduction is shown in Biology class. A student misses his bus and has to call his parents to pick him up. April 16 - The show is cancelled because nobody watches it anymore, apparently it was too realistic for its own good. |

LOL!!
Being realistic doesn't equate to bad or boring. Homicide was incredibely realistic during its hayday and it was great. In it's heyday it wasn't even about the crimes, but about the characters.....but thats the last I'll say cause I don't really watch Boston Public. |
