Re: Game of Thrones (S7E07) -- "The Dragon and the Wolf" -- 8/27/17 -- Season Finale

This will be the first GoT episode I watch "live". I came late to the party, and started a few years ago with DVD (and later Blu-ray). It was interesting when season 7 was delayed because I was finally caught up with everyone else for a few months. Then season 7 started. I'd been avoiding spoilers as best as I could, but everything seemed to have 'em!

So, last week, after minor research, I bought a Roku Express, signed up for HBO NOW's free month, and used my weekend (middle-of-the-week) to catch up.

I am now right with the rest of the world in anticipating the season finale tomorrow!

Can't wait for tonight's finale, but I'm a bit bummed if the rumor is true that Season 8 won't hit til 2019?

I think the 18 month rumor is true. They haven't even started pre-production yet. And if the season finale is received like the last episode was, they may need to do some script retooling as well.

I read that the five "adult" leads get paid $500,000 per episode -- the most per episode of any Drama series on TV. Sounds pretty good, but remember that they only make seven episodes this year and six next. Plus it has to be a lot of work flying all over the globe to shoot and lots of effects shots. Certainly a raw deal compared to the Big Bang Theory actors getting $900,000 per episode for like 2-3 days of work in a studio - 22 times a year.

Some of those leads could also be making more money starring in feature films instead.

I'm thinking Westworld season 2 might be airing in Spring 2018 where Game of Thrones usually airs.

Can't wait for dozens of angry book reader posts calling out how bad this episode is and saying how lazy Weiss and Benioff have become in their writing.

Funny coincidence, I'm looking forward to the exact opposite: Posts by lowest common denominator TV show-only watchers who are entertained by anything GoT shoves down their throats, regardless of how ridiculous it is.

Isn't that really what the internet created, extremes on both sides? Either a blockbuster movie or TV show is the greatest thing ever or the biggest piece of shit!

I like this season of Game of Thrones but I have some problems with it. But because I choose to be more positive and enjoy for what it is every week toward the episodes, I get called out as 'sheep' that will accept every contrivance among this board.

Don't know if it will happen tonight, but I predict the teaser trailer for this season hinted at
Spoiler:
Cersei becoming a wight or White Waker. We saw her do an exhale with her breath visible. I know it's to symbolize winter arriving, but it probably means something more.

We're all entertained by different things. I get more annoyed when someone chooses to articulate themselves in some kind of elitist perspective and calls out people as dumb, the lowest common denominator or fanboys for being entertained by something that they claim wasn't smart enough for them.

Game of Thrones has always been a fantasy show. It's proven itself that it can entertain people looking for smart TV and those looking for escapism entertainment. There's no right or wrongs here for what some people look for in it.

After arguably the worst episode of the entire series last week let's all hope this season ends on a high note at least.

Perhaps it was just a defensive response to your dismissive and unprovoked comment:

It has, and this has no relevance whatsoever. The suggestion that genre has any bearing on writing quality was stupid the first time someone made it and it still is.

It has proven that, but I think enough people both here and elsewhere, people who have been ardent and faithful fans of the show, have pointed out the change in writing quality (or "character", if it makes you feel better) that one would have to be pretty damn stubborn to not acknowledge that the nature of the show's writing has changed. It would also seem perfectly natural for some people to be less than thrilled.

My comment was more or less sarcasm considering last week's episode had a very wide range of opinions. There were those who loved and those who hated it and called out Weiss and Benioff. Some of those who say that hated it were honestly being quite harsh. I get it. The fans who love the source material can have a very harsh, passionate and critical take on this material compared to those who have not opened one page of the books and only look at this show as escapism fantasy entertainment.

I honestly don't have that kind of critical take on the material. I watch it, talk about it with a few friends and colleagues and then move on. I'm one of those who like it, but I come from the more escapism entertainment perspective and not a critical compare/contrast book reader.

I thought last week was a well made and directed penultimate episode. I was entertained. All my colleagues at work loved it and were entertained. I had a long chat with one of my colleagues today who loved it. We didn't analyze maps to talk about the flawed geography timing issues that some here had. I don't know what else I could say to articulate myself anymore smarter about it.

Re: Game of Thrones (S7E07) -- "The Dragon and the Wolf" -- 8/27/17 -- Season Finale

I predict Jon takes an overnight boat ride from Dragonstone to Quarth and heads back to Oldtown picking-up Sam after breakfast, then back to the Wall where he finds Ghost around brunch time, gives him a pep-talk, Ghost sprints to King's Landing arriving for Lunch, with a message to Cersei. Cersei'll send a response sending her entire army to the wall getting there for the early-bird and back to King's Landing for Diner. That should cover the the first scene of the show.

But it'll be really well made, have aweS@@@@@@@me drgns!!!!!!111111.

Sorry, also sarcasm Heck Djariya, I'm glad you enjoy the show. I wish I was in your camp, it sure would be more pleasant than be pissed off about it! At least this is the last one

So that was the spoiler that I was inadvertently exposed to. True it was, although I didn't know the details.

Aiden Gillan deserves an Emmy.

This season, I would give it to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Even Peter Dinklage has been surpassed by him this season.
