I've always felt Jerome's character was partially a rip-off of Nicholson's Joker, but ripping off his Joker spray?

I'm pretty sure some form of Joker Gas has been around far longer than 1989.

Jerome is an homage (rip-off?) Of a mix of Jack and Heath.

Possibly. But one that actually changes the appearance of the victim in the same way as it did in '89 and this last episode? Doubt it. Maybe they are banking on a lot of younger viewers not having seen the 1989 film. And they could be right.

But hey, at least they had it be something Crane cooked up rather than recycling the whole '89 plot.

The Joker "toxin" that gives the victim a Joker-ish smile was used by Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers in their excellent Detective Comics run back in the '70s. That storyline was adapted for the animated series.

So the '89 version was an adaption of that comic? I never remember reading about movie plot being an adaptation of an existing comic storyline.

And there was an animated series episode that used the same storyline?

Any online versions of that comic? As somebody that obviously never saw it would be very interesting to see first hand.

Burton's film borrowed elements from a lot of different Batman stories and portrayals, particularly the darker, more dramatic elements that began with Denny O'Neil's take on the character in The '70s, which was elaborated on by many who followed including Steve Englehart and Frank Miller. It did not adapt one particular story.

Probably the same as they have before. This series has went though more rescheduling and hiatuses than I can count. If I didn't have a DVR to catch it automatically, I would have bailed on watching it many seasons ago.

Isn't that one of the options they have done before. Or am I thinking of a different show on Fox?
