Chris Gethard "Career Suicide" HBO stand-up/depression special

Did anybody see this one-man show last night? I saw it got good reviews, and I was blown away.

It's a very uncomfortable watch at times. Just as you're about to break down and cry for this guy (as he is crying) he brings it back with some laughs.

I've never seen anything like this before. I'm guessing, based on their faces, most of the audience had no idea what they showed up for.

I don't have HBO. But I just watched "Don't Think Twice" because it showed up on Netflix. He was good in that.

Sounds like I'll like it. Surprised we never got a stand-up special where the comedian kills themself on stage.

I just don't know what else this guy could do to further his career. He'll always be known as the depression comedian after this.

As someone who has a family member that suffers with depression this was great to see. I personally thought it was very funny and at the same time extremely emotional for me.

This was not that depressing as I thought it would be though that part where he mentioned you can never tell what event will be that breaking point was emotional.

If he was going to parties and banging chicks it can not be all that bad.

Hope he lives a long and happy life.

I've seen 100+ stand-up specials in my life and this was as good as it gets. Incredible in every way.

This is a guy who even after watching this special doesn't even begin to comprehend depression in any way.

I am not always happy and I understand it but a lot of depressed people probably never had girlfriends and Chris did.

No one is "always happy". That has nothing to do with depression and just shows that you don't understand it. Clinical depression is debilitating to lots of people and it doesn't matter if that person has a significant other or their success in life.

Re: Chris Gethard "Career Suicide" HBO stand-up/depression special

I've had girlfriends, and I even have a wonderful daughter. But I still have random bouts of depression. A lot of the time, there isn't even any real reason for it. You don't have to have a reason to be depressed. It just happens and it can't be explained. Even knowing this, doesn't stop it from being a reoccurring thing. I can go days, weeks, months, even years with everything just fine; then randomly without anything bringing it on, go into a state of depression.
