Watched the first 4 or 5 episodes and dvr'd the rest of the season. Didn't bother watching more because renewal sounded iffy so I figured I'd wait until hearing for sure. Guess I can delete them now.

Huh? That makes no sense. A showrunner is a Producer and also head writer. 9 times out of 10 a showrunner created or co-created the show they oversee. Ryan and Kripke co-created the show and were co-showrunners.

Actually I have to correct myself. Ryan's last show that lasted more than 1 season was The Unit.

It's simple expensive science fiction and genre shows mostly fail on network TV because the Nielsen box viewers don't watch them. The audience that loves them are those who DVR it, binge watch or stream, which doesnt help since they aren't watching the ads.

Ryan said money was a factor. I have to assume for the special effects, sets, and costumes this show used, it was a money loser considering the ratings it got.

What I was trying to say was, that when he's sole creator and showrunner (The Shield) all is awesome. When he's co-creator or just executive producer, the shows tank

As I said in the TV ratings and cancellations thread I'm disappointed by this. I understand all the business reasons but that works really need to look at how they track numbers - the old Nielsen model just doesn't make sense anymore.

The Western episode was one of the best shot tv shows I may have ever seen. It came off as really cinematic.

Would like some sort of closure. Maybe they could do audio books?

ITA. With no changes, what network TV will be left with is ARRP fodder. Basically what CBS throws out there almost every evening. We watch very few of those shows and it will be even fewer next season because they are dropping in quality like a boulder rolling down a mountain.

This is why I never bother with major network shows. I know that's kind of "chicken and the egg" meaning if people wait to see if a show stays for a while, it dooms the show anyway, but at this point I won't give another major network show a chance in the first season. Too many other things to watch now.

I think you have to go in with the idea that if you're watching a SF/Fantasy show on a major network, it'll be lucky if it gets a year, -unless it's The CW.

I hear ya. I will not be making this same mistake again. Recently the same thing happened with Almost Human on Fox. I'll catch up with a network show after the fact if there is by some miracle an actual conclusion.

I didn't think it was coming back, so this isn't a shock.

Despite liking the premise and the cast, they made a couple of critical mistakes along the way. They stuck to the formula way too much for a science fiction series, making it little more than a time-travel procedural. The other big problem was Rittenhouse itself. It was clear the showrunners had little grasp on them as villains, which seeped into every plotline. They were winging it as they went along on the group's origins and purpose.

Sony (the studio who makes it) fought hard to save it. They offered NBC more of the profits.

Shows produced by outside studios no matter how good they are creatively are always at a disadvantage because of money.


Sony is very good at saving cancelled shows. They saved Community multiple times. And they also saved Damages.

Nice news, they can wrap things up for the fans. I know it is dangerous to assume, but I would think the show runners would not push their luck and create a series two finale that at least wraps up some of the major plot points of season two. I know I will watch when it comes back on air. Always nice to have some original programming choices to watch in the summer months from the major networks.

Interesting. Shame it will have to wait a year to be on. Will lose any momentum it had garnered. Hopefully it will deal with more of the paradoxes and butterfly effect of time travel instead of the cryptic Rittenhouse whoever the hell they were.

Personally, I think this is awesome news. According to the article, they are looking to develop it as even more family-friendly, and moving it from 10 to 8 p.m.
