Legion (S1E01) -- X-Men Universe TV Show -- Series Premiere -- "Chapter 1" -- 2/8/17

Quote:
Legion, the highly-anticipated new drama series from Noah Hawley, will premiere on FX on Wednesday, February 8 at 10 PM ET/PT. Hawley serves as Executive Producer, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory and John Cameron. Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the executive producers of the Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R)-winning FX limited series Fargo. Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David's routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which David must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real. A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy's concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she's built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists - Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) - open David's eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
Amber Midthunder as Kerry

It doesn't mention it in the episode description, but the main character David Haller is apparently the son of:

Spoiler:
Charles Xavier

Noah Hawley has certainly more than earned the benefit of the doubt at this point.

He is in the comics, do we know that to be the case in the show? Because I wouldn't be surprised to see them completely take that out, so as not to tie it too closely to the films.

I was going to skip this as I'm about superheroed out but the reviews have been so good that I'll have to give it a shot.

This just started, the design and shooting styles are fantastic. If Margot Robbie wasn't already playing her, I'd say Rachel Keller would make a great Harley Quinn.

There's 7 re-airs over the next week. You have plenty of chances to catch it.

Otherwise, it will probably be on the FX Now app tomorrow.

Good lord, fucking advertising. The first hour of the show is a bit slow and the commercial breaks were once every 15 minutes. As the pace picks up in the final 30 - 40 minutes, so do the number of commercial breaks (every 7 minutes it seems).

Anyway, I really enjoyed this, beautifully done pilot, looking forward to future episodes.

Well, that was different.

First hour was kind of slow and a little confusing. They kept going back and forth between David's imagination and reality.

I did think the last 10-15 minutes was the most exciting part. Some cool special effects.

No references to other X-Men entities.

That was trippy as hell. Could definitely see the Hawley influence on it. Couldn't place Syd until I looked her up and saw she was the daughter on Fargo season 2. I didn't even recognize her.

The dead person on/in the wall, was that Aubrey Plaza's character? I couldn't tell

Yep. They reference her by name a few times after the incident, but you had to pay attention to really know wtf was happening there.

I had to sit down and watch the entire thing for a second time today as I was too tired last night to give it my full attention. I have no idea who Legion is from a comic book standpoint but holy heck was that a wonderfully trippy premiere.

Ratings for it's 1st airing last night weren't that great. 1.6M viewers and 0.8. Probably airing at 10pm and being 90 minutes played some part.

I'm sure it will pick up some delayed viewing.

I wonder if this will be too much of a mental commitment to last. It basically requires one to pay attention the entire time or rewatch it. I liked the show but I'm also coming in as big X-men fan how started the books around the time Legion was introduced. Never did I think THIS character would have a tv show.
