This is the first season opener of Homeland I'm not hyped for as I feel the show jumped the shark. I always stick it out with a show because I'm invested in the characters, but it looks Showtime is milking another show past its expiration date.

The premise of this seems sort of dumb. Focusing on the smaller home grown terrorism stuff. Meh. I'll still watch, but it's definitely past its prime.

Meh opener
Dar vs. the president-elect could be interesting.
Hopefully Peter locked in Carrie's basement isn't a long going story.

They have turned Quinn into a terrible character.

Pretty bland episode.
I'm already tired of the Quinn storyline.
Yea, this show falls under the category of watching for the sake of watching something. After the 4th season, I've already invested too much time into this show to stop now. Will ride it out until the end. At least it'll provide me some background noise while I'm surfing or doing other things.

Last season was a chore to get through. Was hoping the new season opener would motivate me to tune in again...damn.

This show has completely devolved from what made it great. This episode was a bloated mess and the situation they put Quinn into is abhorrent. And what is with Otto? Did they just bring him back to wrap up that storyline from S5?

I disagree with your premise. I thought Season 5 was fantastic. Better than Season 4, which was also really good. Season 3 was the only one I think was really bad...but this season hasn't started well.

They definitely have - it started last year but now they're 100% committed to having him stay terrible. I really liked having a Jack Bauer type kicking ass alongside Carrie but they've ruined him. This premiere was boring and is getting so far away from what made HOMELAND good. Carrie sucks now too.

That was probably the dullest Homeland premiere in the 6 seasons it's been on. So low on energy.
A "Season Premiere" IMO is supposed to get people excited for the rest of the season. I think Alex Gansa and his co-writer failed in doing that.
And why bring back Peter Quinn if you're just going to make him some miserable druggie? So much potential with the character wasted. I miss the covert badass spy Quinn. I guess we won't be seeing him anytime soon.
I'm not really sold on the apparent season plot with homegrown terrorism paranoia.
and guess what? Good old Dar is scheming against Saul again.
Even AV Club thought it was a boring premiere.

The show is at the point where it's just going through the motions and there is no real character development at this point. Where are these characters going in their lives that should make care anymore other then I've watched for 5 seasons? It's just another season of DarDal scheming against someone, Saul trying to find his place, and Carrie running around fucking things up and then saving the day. And don't get me started on what they have done with Quinn.
Although the DarDal vs President Elect will probably be an interesting plot point this season.

I agree with everyone who said this was dull. I really hope they have something more exciting planned than what I foresee: Quinn and Carrie stumbling into some homegrown terrorist plot with Saul screaming at everyone on Capitol Hill that they must remain vigilant.

Season premier just brutal and boring. Carrie's job is now something with defending Muslims? OK...

Honestly, I could take all the other junk if they'd only kept up, and not ruined, Quinn's character.

I forget where I read an article about the upcoming season of Homeland with the Creators of the show: They supposedly they got alot of flack from Liberals for being too Anti-Muslim and this is their payback with Carrie's story.
And they originally had Quinn dying as they told the actor who played him he would not be back for Season 6. But they had 2nd thoughts, and decided to take the character they way they are doing now. Their quote was (I'm paraphrasing), "You've never see characters on TV like Quinn have this much of a transformation."

Alex Gansa, Homeland's showrunner, said in this interview with Deadline back in September that season 8 will be the last season.
http://deadline.com/2016/09/homeland...me-1201821705/
However, he said they have not mapped out the final 2 seasons yet.
http://deadline.com/2017/01/homeland...me-1201885718/
His goal is to shoot the final 2 seasons in Israel.
I appreciate his honesty though. Sounds like he and his writers are writing Homeland based on what they see in the news.
When any TV showrunner claims they have mapped out a series for xx years and xx episodes, I think they are full of shit.

DEADLINE: On the subject of moves, you’ve talked about Homeland as having a lifespan of eight seasons, at least for you, and ending it perhaps in Israel. So looking at that, with Showtime having renewed the show for a Season 7 and 8, and looking at the way Season 6 will play plays itself out, are you building the story toward a conclusion this season?
GANSA: I’m absolutely building the story toward a conclusion and, barring unforeseen world events, we do really hope to go abroad for the last two seasons and to end the story there. We also hope to get Carrie back into the intelligence agency business. She’s been out of it now for two seasons and I think it’s time that she goes back into the fold and then winds up doing her job overseas somewhere.
DEADLINE: Are there seeds that’ve been planted in past seasons and this season that we’ll see bear fruition for come the final season?
GANSA: Absolutely. Absolutely, and you will see, even in Season 6, some characters that have appeared in previous seasons reappear this season. That’s one of the benefits of having so many seasons behind you, is you have this wealth of characters that you can reintroduce, and that have a history with your current regulars, so you don’t have to start from scratch.
DEADLINE: So, have you planned out how this is all going to end?
GANSA: The entire show or this season?
DEADLINE: The entire show.
GANSA: Have not. I mean, we have some ideas but those ideas are always mutated once you get into the story room and start discussing the particulars.

2nd episode was a snoozer. Only interesting stuff is the Dar Dahl spy shit.
