Black Adam (2022, D: Collet-Serra) -- S: Dwayne Johnson
Couldn't find a thread for this one, but Dwayne Johnson will be starring in a Black Adam solo film instead of being the primary villain in the Shazam movie.
Here's an article I found from April:
Dwayne Johnson Confirms Separate Movies for Black Adam and Shazam; Teases DC Plans
A report surfaced in January that Warner Bros. was considering splitting Shazam into two movies—one focusing on Black Adam, and one focusing on Shazam. And in a new interview with MTV, Johnson confirms that is indeed the case:
“We’ve had great discussions with Geoff Johns over there at DC. This is a really, really fun, cool time for DC right now because they’re really in a process of truly world building, and building out. We’re seeing that with Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and we have a few surprises down the line. So what we decided to do was actually create a scenario where Black Adam is having his standalone movie, Captain Marvel/Shazam will have his standalone movie, and then we’re building our world up that way and then we can come together at some other point.”

“Undateable” Creator Adam Sztykiel to Write Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” Movie for DC, New Line (Exclusive)
http://www.tracking-board.com/undate...ine-exclusive/
Undateable creator Adam Sztykiel is in negotiations to write New Line and DC Entertainment’s Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson as the popular antihero, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
There’s no director attached yet, but the film will be produced by Johnson and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn of the Flynn Picture Company. The villainous comic book character was created in 1945 by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck.
The news comes just days after New Line and DC set Zachary Levi (NBC’s Chuck) to play Shazam in the superhero film of the same name. Originally conceived to be the central antagonist in Shazam!, Black Adam was spun off into a separate film earlier this year and is being developed alongside its counterpart.
Sztykiel is no stranger to New Line, having penned We’re the Millers 2 and the Lonely Island-produced action comedy Spy Guys for the studio. He also wrote the Robert Downey Jr.-Zach Galifianakis comedy Due Date and the Patrick Dempsey-Michelle Monaghan rom-com Made of Honor.

Take it for what you will, in an interview (promoting Rampage) Dwayne Johnson said this about the movie:
https://heroichollywood.com/dwayne-j...oduction-soon/
“The script came in, it’s great, we’re working on it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie, in production.”

Interview with Hiram Garcia, production president of Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions:

What’s the rest of the 2019 Seven Bucks slate look like?
We just wrapped “Hobbs and Shaw,” which bows in August. We just had our launch and had a great Super Bowl spot that people responded to pretty positively. Right now, we’re shooting the next version of “Jumanji,” which comes out in December. We’re also ramping up a couple big projects like “Black Adam” and our goal is to get that going at the top of 2020. The script is coming along well and we’re in the polishing phase now and are looking to attach the right director to it. A lot of people consider Dwayne a superhero already, so to finally have him play one on screen in the DC universe is a dream for us.

EXCLUSIVE: New ‘BLACK ADAM’ Script Features Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Stargirl
EXCLUSIVE: New 'BLACK ADAM' Script Features Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Stargirl - That Hashtag Show
Late last month, scribe Adam Szytkiel, who was brought on by New Line back in 2017 to pen the Johnson vehicle, turned in an updated draft of the script which is sure to please fans of DC Comics. Szytkiel’s script seems to be taking some cues from Geoff Johns’ early 2000’s work with the character and sets up a battle of heavyweights as it pits Hawkman against the protector of Khandaq!
The studio will be looking to cast an actor, 30-39, to take on the role of Carter Hall with an emphasis on landing someone the audience can believe could go toe-to-toe with the Brahma Bull!
The script also features Adam’s fellow JSA members Atom Smasher and Stargirl, the two of whom have often been depicted to be in a relationship in the comics. The studio will be searching for talent, 20-29, to play the duo.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the addition of Hawkman to the film could certainly indicate that the studios is at least entertaining the thought of pushing the envelope on the amount of violence we’ll be seeing on screen. In a 2018 interview, producer Hiram Garcia stated that the film was not going to be “softened up” for audiences and the inclusion of Hawkman would seem to indicate that they’re standing by that claim.
Black Adam is tentatively set for a March 2020 start of production and is currently searching for a director. Stay tuned to That Hashtag Show for more on this project and other DC Entertainment news!

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may finally get to play his DC villain next year, as the actor says Black Adam will begin filming next year. Although Johnson is one of the longest tenured members of the DC universe, based on the timing of his casting, he has yet to actually make an appearance. He was cast as Black Adam all the way back in 2014, where he was envisioned as the villain of Shazam! This plan changed, partially because of Johnson's influence, and saw Warner Bros. and DC Films green light a solo movie for Johnson to star in.
It has been two years since Black Adam was announced to be in development, and The Rock's increasingly busy schedule has made it all the more difficult to fit in. Warner Bros. previously hired a writer in Adam Sztykiel for the project, and Johnson has remained incredibly optimistic about the shooting schedule of his solo film. There have been several instances of him saying when production could begin, and he's now provided another possible update.
In an Instagram post, Johnson revealed that the current plan for Black Adam will see production begin in about a year. This would give the solo movie a range of spring to summer 2020 to start filming. If this plan does stick, then Black Adam could possibly be ready to hit theaters in the early parts of 2022.
Johnson's optimism around Black Adam's filming schedule is well-placed, but there are still several steps that the movie needs to take before cameras can start rolling. One of the biggest hurdles that it has yet to clear is naming a director. There was prior speculation online that some of Johnson's familiar partners could also take the lead here, but nothing has transpired to this point. This timeline still gives Black Adam several more months to find the right person for the job, so hopefully this is the time when Johnson's hopes actually result in some good news.
The overall interest in Black Adam is already high with a star like Johnson attached, but it could also see a spike thanks to Shazam! Johnson executive produced the origin story and managed to work in some setup for Black Adam in the process. Audiences who want to know more about the previous champion selected by the Council of Wizards may not have to look any further than Black Adam. And with Shazam! being a hit with audiences, there is even more anticipation from fans that want to see Black Adam face off with Zachary Levi's Shazam in the future. Since Black Adam appears to be part of the plan before such a fight can occur, we'll just have to hope that filming will indeed begin filming in 2020, so that the wheels can be set in motion for this showdown.

Levi has said Shazam 2 should start filming by summer of next year at the latest and the two won't cross over until Shazam 3.
So probably Shazam 2 - 2021 or early 2022, Black Adam - mid 2022.

Considering right now The Suicide Squad is to start filming in September and will certainly be complete by late 2020, I wonder if Warner might move that up to Spring 2021 (March/April) and slot in Shazam 2 (assuming production does start Summer 2020) in August 2021.

Yea, some of their production and release schedules are weird. WW1984 wrapped 6 months ago and still has a year until release. I know they played around with the release date a lot though.

Still no official word on Shazam 2 start date either. Only what Levi said earlier in the year. Maybe that could go before this in early 2020?

Oh, and don't forget, according to an Esquire article with Jason Momoa, Aquaman 2 could start production next year as well.

I liked Shazam! quite a bit. Would sort of rather just get a sequel with Black Adam as the villain.
