Never saw the movie since I figured the series wouldn't continue. Will likely check this out though!

Looks like a spot-on Jim Carrey impression by Neil Patrick Harris.

I read this series of books to my 4th graders when I was a teacher in the early 2000s. I am hoping that the plan is follow the book plots fairly closely. I have already seen some things in the trailers that make me think so.

The movie was so awful it killed any chance for a film franchise. We'll see what TV can do.

Girl at 1:50 looks so much like Danielle Harris in The Last Boyscout that I had to check Wiki and see if it's her daughter. It's not.

I thought the movie was alright. Some of it was so dark and hateful I know it was a turnoff for a lot of people. Does the story go any further? I always thought that was the whole story consolidated in one movie.

I suddenly remembered a few months back that I had actually seen the film in the theater, -and that's ALL I remember, that I had seen it. I don't remember a single detail, and that's odd for me.
I'll definitely give this a shot sooner than later.

I recall liking the movie. Better than the Harry Potter films too. I'll have to go back an re-watch it to confirm my memories.

Same here. But all I remember is Emily Browning. And that isn't weird, she is close to me in age.

I also liked the movie. Thought that it was very underrated. I'll definitely check these out. I'm at work and can't check Netflix, but what's the rating for this? Wondering for the kids...

I haven't watched any yet, but on the summary screen it says "Kids TV for ages 11-12".

We were reading it to 4th and 5th graders when the books were first published, and they ate it up. Truly absurdist humor, the depressing plot line is part of the joke and appeal of the series, plus Count Olaf’s shenanigans...

I watched the whole season and I loved it, I also really like the movie. But the series is like the books and sticks to the story 98 percent of the time. a few thigns were changed but nothing major I really hope they make all 13 books into the series I look forward to the rest greatly

I finished "The Bad Beginning 1 and 2" last night, and it hews very close to the books. Now that the primary characters have been established, looking forward to all the next characters and nuttiness that's coming. I really like that Lemony Snicket (Patrick Warburton) himself acts as the on-camera Greek chorus for the show. Also like Sunny's subtitles, very similar to the movie version.

I'm a fan of the movie.

Watched episode 1 and it was good but something feels off with NPH.
Doesn't have the gravitas for the character. Maybe that will come in later eps.

No familiarity with the books. Really enjoyed the movie. Caught the 1st 2 eps. I think the problem with NPH's Olaf is he seem like the little brother Carrey's version. Hes toned down alot. Still think the show is enjoyable though.

I watched the first ep and like the style. NPH was my least favorite part of it and I usually don't mind him. It seemed like it was just NPH reading lines in makeup. Maybe a different voice for Count Olaf would have helped. I kept imaging how Jim Carrey would be perfect. Didn't know he was in the movie.

re: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix) -- Series Thread

We watched the first episode last night and loved it. NPH did seem to be on another level, but then the whole thing felt like an animated series done in live action. The kids being so straight faced at his absurdities is what sold it.

One odd thing that kept standing out to me was that there were shots were Violet and Klaus kept switching heights, were there late season re-shoots done after one of them had a growth spurt?

Well, now I know where Sheila Jackson (Joan Cusack in Shameless) ended up after she left Chicago.

Started the first episode last night. I liked what I saw of it, and my kids did too (they also loved the movie). Yes, it's very dark for a kids book/movie, but that's the whole point of the story.

Finished the season. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the movie. But the movie covered like 90% of what happened over Season 1. Plus every major character was better in the movie. But overall it was well done.

re: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix) -- Series Thread

Hard to say. We finally finished the last episode over the weekend and it's one of those things where it was hard to make ourselves sit down and watch, but when we did we were totally engrossed. And when I realized the season was over, I immediately wanted to start the next one.

I guess the theme song is pretty spot on, it's not a pleasant journey, but it feels like an important one and I want to keep watching.
