Re: The Blacklist (NBC) -- Season 4 Thread -- premieres 9/22/16

Another solid episode. Can't wait til next week.

Glad the spin-off is done. I like Ryan Eggold and glad he will return to this. I was very bored with the spin-off.

Yup. The second half of this has been awesome. Capped off with this great reveal of Kaplan's background and history with these people. I never would have figured in the first season that should become one of the better parts of the series. They need to make sure they keep around the person or team that made that work.

Despite it being the obvious conclusion, it was still sad to see Kaplan go. Also great to finally get the straight father answer. Now some mystery about how the mother died that Tom is aware of?

Hopefully this will get back to what made S1 great with the added bonus that they can implement some of the Redemption story line and characters.

More importantly, why would Tom participate in helping Kaplan hurt Elizabeth?

As illogical as it seems at times, they have always made that part of the larger story as one of the reasons Red came into her life. To limit the damage done by Tom.

Tom could see it like Kaplan did: finally showing Elizabeth the truth. Elizabeth was in the car with Kaplan to go get the suitcase, so she had already made the choice to see the truth, so it's not like Kaplan or Tom are going to force it on her; they're just doing it despite Reddington's wishes.

The ending implied the truth may be more damaging to Reddington than to Elizabeth, in that it may cause her to no longer trust him or want to see him ever again.

Somehow I do not really think Tom is going to give it to her. Pretty sure Reddington got to Tom. OR at least that is how I hope it turns out. IT did make for an interesting cliffhanger however. I don't need the goodwill that Elizabeth showed to Red to be immediately messed up.

The final two episodes were engaging. Unlike the rest of the season.

Re: The Blacklist (NBC) -- Season 4 Thread -- premieres 9/22/16

My attention span wavered off and on for this season of Blacklist but I felt the final two-parter was a good return to form for the series. I was glad they finally gave us straight answers on Red's relationship and that Elizabeth knows.

I'd love it if they had Elizabeth take over Red's place in his criminal empire. That seemed to be the direction they hinted at in the end.

Actually i'm not too sure it's obvious. The scene right after the 'reveal' and hug you see Red talking to Dembe and Dembe says 'you didn't deny it'?

more vague stuff?

Re: The Blacklist (NBC) -- Season 4 Thread -- premieres 9/22/16

Finally finished season 4 yesterday. I had around 4 episodes left.

This Kaplan vs. Red arc in the last 1/4 of the season was probably some of the most engaging story the show has put out. I was sad to see Kate go at the end. I did like seeing the episode that showed her tragic back story and how she got the "Mr. Kaplan" name. Her girlfriend getting killed in that one episode was pretty sad. I liked the actor they chose to play the younger version of her.

and finally glad they once and for all confirmed that Liz is Red's daughter. Some of us suspected this since the Pilot episode, but they kind of went around in circles with it.

Question about the cliffhanger, were those Liz's Moms remains inside the suitcase? Are they trying to imply that Red may have killed her? It was good to see Tom back. It was funny hearing Red say to Dembe...What got to get to that suitcase. He did seem anxious about it. I also think that Tom might be intercepting the suitcase. I doubt that he was aiding Kaplan and would use the suitcase to hurt Liz. I guess we'll see in a few months.

None of the plot of Redemption has any impact on The Blacklist (so far), aside from explaining why Tom is absent the latter part of season 4.

Re: The Blacklist (NBC) -- Season 4 Thread -- premieres 9/22/16

I watched 3 of Redemption and it's basically a case of the week procedural.

Megan Boone does guest star in 1 episode, but it was really just to help Eggold segue into the spinoff as she accepted he needed to do this.

There is an ongoing story arc, but it doesn't kick into gear until the last few episodes. It's a bit similar to the first season of Blacklist in that way.
