The show just isn't really that funny anymore, but I do appreciate how far the writers go for a single laugh. They have Jay as Jesus, his nemesis as the Devil and an autographed photo of David Soul, just so they can have a one liner towards the end of the show about Jesus and Satan battling over a "Soul". Nice.

Wow. Google is sure promoting the fuck out of the Google Home device. Not only are they showing the commercials every commercial break, but they placed it in last night's episode as part of the plot device.

yeah, the forced Google Home stuff was cringe-worthy. I did enjoy the shock collar and secret alliance stuff, though.

It wasn't too bad compared to last night's Blackish where they kept mentioning Microsoft and seemed to directly promote the Surface.

I don't mind product placement in shows. It always bothered me when a show would specifically have a product that was almost real but just different enough legally like Playdude magazine. Or when there's an obvious real product but with black tape over part of it. These things take me out of it. I'd rather the product be the real deal. Just don't turn to the camera and make it a joke.

It wouldn't have been so bad, but every time Phil talked to his it activated mine. Before I knew it, I was listening to the same romantic Italian music mix he had requested.

The Google product placement didn't bother me that much. It definitely wasn't any worse than their over the top Apple schilling over the years.

OK episode. As already mentioned, Ty Burrell's physical comedy was the highlight. I wasn't bothered by the Google product placement. How many times a day do you say (in your regular life) "Google it" or some variation thereof? Like someone else mentioned, I prefer when they use a real product name instead of an obvious phony one.

I like anything that gives Sarah Hyland screen time, but I really don't think the teenage daughter of her new boyfriend works as a plot and I hope they drop it.

That plotline seemed to accentuate the creepiness of it. Plus after the end of Castle and the revelations that Fillion was such a dick, it's not as easy to enjoy his easy going, fun on-screen persona.

They cast her as a 14 year old, but there's no way she's younger than 17 - and that still may be too young.

I missed hearing these revelations and that makes me sad. I have heard since Season 1 that the 2 leads didn't get along but every report put the blame on her because she treated the staff like crap and Nathan would repeatedly call her out for it. How was he a dick?

Yeah, not to go OT but Stana was reportedly a nightmare to work with throughout the entire production run of that show. If it wasn't for production NDAs she'd never work again.

Yeah, either Fillion has fantastic PR people to put the blame on her or those stories were true. I never heard anything bad about him, other than in relation to dealing with her.

Maybe it was PR but all I heard was that the friction was caused by Fillion. Besides any girl that I would happily bang couldn't be that big of a bitch. Maybe he was an asshole because she was a nasty hag. Don't know. What I read blamed him. Maybe she planted those stories?

At the end, when Joe was sitting on the couch, acting like Jay, he had his hand down his pants like Al Bundy.

Re: Modern Family (ABC) -- Season 8 Thread -- premieres 9/21/16

The last couple seasons the laughs are getting too few and far between.
They're really struggling for stories and ways to include most of the characters.

It was obvious Claire had something planned for Phil all along, just had to wait to see what it was.

They're just gonna have Alex hook up with anyone at all, eh? There was no evidence of her being attracted to Ben (he barely existed to her) and all of a sudden she's all over him? They made Ben 26 with some lame excuse as to why he looks older... but he's 33 in real life.

That was great nod.

First half of episode was boring, but second half was fantastic. Phil is the best.

This show is still on our watch list but for me Phil is the only one I enjoy anymore.

They already have Haley being the slut. Now they have Alex attacking anything that shows interest. The football player a eps ago and now Ben.
