Son of Zorn (FOX) - Season 1 Thread - from EP Lord & Miller
The new FOX comedy SON OF ZORN will preview on Sunday, Sept. 11 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), following the season's first NFL doubleheader on FOX. The series will then premiere in its regular time period with an all-new episode Sunday, Sept. 25 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT). From executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ("The LEGO Movie," "21 Jump Street"), and featuring the voice of Jason Sudeikis (THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, "Horrible Bosses," "We're the Millers"), SON OF ZORN is a new hybrid live-action/animated comedy about a warrior from a faraway island in the Pacific Ocean - where everything and everyone is animated - who returns to Orange County, CA, to win back his live-action ex-wife and teenage son. In the series' special preview episode, "Return to Orange County," airing Sunday, Sept. 11 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), Zorn (Sudeikis) travels from his native land of Zephyria to California to visit his son, Alangulon, aka Alan (Johnny Pemberton, "21 Jump Street"). While there, he learns that his ex-wife, Edie (Cheryl Hines, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"), has a fiancé (Tim Meadows, "Saturday Night Live"). But to reconnect with his son, Zorn stays and obtains a job where, despite his "unique" qualities, he is welcomed by his new boss (Artemis Pebdani, "Scandal," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"). In the all-new series premiere episode, "Defender of Teen Love," airing Sunday, Sept. 25 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), Zorn rediscovers the mystical "Stone of Sight" in an old box and uses it to help Alan get closer to his crush, Nancy. Meanwhile, Edie tells Zorn to move his boxes out of her garage and into his apartment.

Okay, sneak preview on Fox tonight and so far, pretty stupid. But kinda funny in some ways, like paying the landlord with a cut off hand with a lot of jewelry...

Show was kind of hit and miss. Jeweled hands for money and the whole "Murder Hawk" where great, rest was kind of meh. To be fair it was just the first ep. Seems like the sort of show that needed to be late night comedy central vs prime time FOX. '
then again FOX has been able to run different animation shows for decades now so clearly they have an idea what works on their animation night. Show on it's own, might not be that great. This show thrown into and near the rest of FOX's comedy shows it should do ok.

I will admit, the whole Murder Hawk thing really was funny. And the doctor hosing down the driveway while bits of the dismembered hawk in the trash can twitched was great. Other than that....
I may give this another shot, but there's a lot of other good stuff coming up to compete for my viewing time.

In the beginning with Skunk-Man, Zorn says he'll get to meet his family some day... Skunk-Man's head is immediately smashed off - lol.

Zorn sounded like Seth MacFarlane ... Was surprised to read otherwise here.
First episode, meh. Felt less like broadcast TV and more like Cartoon Network fare. Hopefully this improves now that the set-up is out of the way. I did get a kick out of Zorn getting a job ("minority hire") and refusing to accept his boss is a woman.

I made it about 8 minutes and quit. Looks like a swing and a miss. I was certainly a lot more from the people that made Last Man on Earth.

Okay first episode.
I suspect this will either get a lot better or hackneyed like Family Guy/2 Broke Girls and milk the same jokes over and over.

The show is starting to hit it's stride. Pretty damn hilarious. I want a Lava Launcher as well as a Death Hawk.
