Okay, I figured out the confusion.

Last night's premiere was episodes 201 and 202 edited together.

So next Wednesday will be episode 203.

So tonight on USA they are re-airing episodes 201 and 202 separately starting at 11pm ET.
Ahh, thanks DJ. So if I keep my recording of last nights ep and not bother with tonight's I should be good to go and not miss anything?

Correct, you don't need to record anything tonight. It's just a re-air.

Horrible ratings. 1.04M viewers and 0.4. According to the article it's the lowest rated episode of the series.

That's weird. I wonder why. Lots of fans are looking forward to it. But judging by the lack of movement in this thread, I'm sure a great majority of this show's fans are watching it displaced/elsewhere so that it doesn't show up on ratings.

Most hardcore fans watched the web "leak". They were airing a special in Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat, etc. and in the middle of it "leaked" the first episode.

Next week should be back to normal. But I don't expect big numbers.

To two decimal places, Mr. Robot had a 0.43 in the demo (per Showbuzz Daily), which is only slightly off the S1 finale, which had a 0.46 in the demo.

While the ratings might be horrible if you were expecting a big jump from S1, the slight drop from the S1 finale to the S2 premiere is probably best described as relatively consistent.

The web "leak" was only the first of the two episodes that aired last night. Would be interesting to see if the second half had a ratings bump.

Wow! Talk about limited commercial interruptions in this premiere episode. Great start. At least I understood most of it. Since when can they say the f-bomb on cable? That was surprising. Last season it was all bleeped...

Didn't care for the insanity bits at all. Everything else was fine, if a tad drawn out.

And Gideon! He was like the nicest guy in the whole show. I guess the lesson is that good guys don't get out alive.

Just watched the S2 premier and came here to post virtually this very thing. It's as though they took everything I did not like or was done poorly from the first season and doubled down on all of it. It was two full episodes and it felt like a big waste of time. Hope it gives fans what they want, but this show is definitely not meant for me.

I understand this type of storytelling isn't for everyone, but I love when a show is ambiguous and leaves it up to the viewer to figure out what is going on. There is so many shows that go from point A to point B, as there are very few that try to give you something different in terms of characterization.

I don't love this show as much as others do, but I enjoy it because I think they do a good job with the characters and their struggles, as the overall plot is secondary to me. What usually drives these shows to jump the shark is they rely on the plot too much and there is only so much you can get out of it. How many shows do you say after 1 or 2 seasons, "OK, how much more story is there really to tell about this subject?" The best shows that have longevity are the ones that continue to develop the characters, while the plot is more the backdrop, IMO.

Cable channels, whether basic or premium, are not subject to FCC regulation. So in a technical sense, all cable channels have always been allowed to air whatever they please.

However, in the past, ad-supported cable channels would voluntarily censor content like the f-word (or not use it at all) because uproar about the content could lead to a loss of ad revenue. As time marches on, that seems to be less of a concern, especially for a show airing at 10pm that only has around 1 million viewers.

^ This jumped out to me as well with this week's premiere. Last (and only time, I think) I heard the f-bomb on cable was during the OJ show on FX.

It's slowly becoming an acceptable norm for cable "adult skewing" shows. Advertisers are less squeamish.

The Portia Doubleday complete heel turn felt a little out of sorts for me. Other than that, solid premiere.

That is so not what the show is doing. You're making it sound smarter than it is. It's not the ambiguity that bothers me (it's actually not at all ambiguous), it's the scenes of him struggling with his insanity. They don't make me think, as they say nothing about the mental condition, they just drag the show down, because they're completely redundant - treading the same ground over and over.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

i think Esmail is taking Elliot on a different route. i personally was entranced by the entire episode, psychosis and all. i was ruined by the USA marathon. i kept wanting those bubbles on tthe bottom explaining stuff and sharing interesting facts about production and stuff...

I would argue it is as there are alot of theories on the internet as to where Elliot really is right now. (And I meaning physically, not mentally).

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

I was a big fan of season one but worried that they would have a hard time picking up from the catastrophic events seen in last season's finale. I found it a struggle at times to get through these first two episodes. Some things picked up where they left off but I felt this was an exercise in style over substance.

I think USA made a mistake putting this show in the dead of summer. They thought the critical acclaim would be enough to sell it.

There's a difference between ambiguous and holding back information for later, which is what they're doing in this case.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 2 Discussion Thread - premieres 7/13/16

For me, ambiguous is when a character says, "I've fallen in love," and you don't know with who. It's another thing having a character say, "I've fallen in love," and you not only don't know with who, but you don't even know if he actually ever made the statement, or just imagined it. Or maybe he is in love, but only because he imagines the person completely differently than she really is. Or she's completely made up. Or... wait, WTF am I watching this again? No, seriously, why are we watching this? If the show has something to say, exactly which part of what it's saying can we even be sure is even happening?

I don't say that to bash the show, but to explain what turned me off as last season progressed. Partially that's because I really liked the pilot. However, the weekly show ended up being something different, and the episode that was full on psychosis distanced me. That's not something I enjoy immersing myself in on a weekly basis.

I'm still recording the show and paying attention to the thread, but I don't feel any push to jump right in and watch it weekly. So far, I've given that time to Queen of The South.
