I broke a sweat watching Sam get punked by his old man.

Given his dad gave him the option of going to the wall or being murdered, no

What did Sam do to get sent to the wall? Was it just because he was fat?

Also, why did Jon Snow want Sam to become a maester? I think it might have been to learn how to kill white walkers. At this rate, won't it take Sam too long to learn anything before it's too late?

Wasn't it something about being the first born but not wanting to hand the house and name over to him since he wasn't much of a man in his dad's eyes?

Sam was really the only one smart enough to be qualified. He's not some great fighter so they don't need him for that.

i have developed a very strong dislike for the waif. if anyone shares my distaste and needs to hate fap, she got her kit off for the White Queen (starz version) and a show called Glue. very therapeutic and my heart now can beat light.

no pun intended.

Sam had to persuade Jon to let him go and study.

Yes, because he was fat and not a warrior.

And not sure what "at this rate" means, we really have no sense of how long everything takes. I suppose it may seem like it's too late if we assume that everything in a single episode is happening at the same time, but I'm not sure that's a fair assumption. Plus, we have no idea how soon the WWs are going to be at the wall.

Every castle has a maester, and Maester Aemon died, so naturally his protege would get the gig.

Randyll Tarly wants his 2nd second Dickon to be the heir of Horn Hill because he's the warrior/leader he was hoping Sam would be. Sending him to the Wall would be the only legal way to pass the titles, lands, and inheritances on to Dickon.

Also, about
Spoiler:
The Hound being brought back...it's being theorized that The Faith chooses The Hound against The Mountain in the trial by combat? Which I assume everyone expects The Hound to win as a sort of redemption, however that interestingly would mean Cersei would have to be put to death...wonder if that's really how it's going to play out. I'd be genuinely surprised if that's how Cersei met her end. I can't imagine Tommen would go along with that verdict.

WTFWT focused on Benjen, though they also covered Edmure later. Just speaking for myself, I remember Edmure well because he was one of the only people in the Stark contingent who didn't die on screen in the Red Wedding. I've often wondered what happened to him, and now we know.

I didn't really recall Benjen. Even after last season's fakeout, I didn't go back and search out his early scenes.

I presumed it was a way for the father to legally wrangle Sam's younger brother (Dickon?) into becoming his heir without Sam needing to suffer some sort of fatal accident since a convenient result of Sam joining the Watch was him forfeiting any family titles or inheritance.

What I have a hard time with is:

Spoiler:
The Hound beating the Mountain when he was bested by Brienne.

Also, remember the scene with the witch and young Cersei last season. The witch fortold that all three of her children would die before her, meaning Tommen would die first.

Not sure if it needs a spoiler tag but...
Spoiler:
When the Hound fought Brienne, he wasn't at 100% strength due to the wound he had that was getting infected or something.

Plus Brienne had a valyrian steel sword which is both stronger and lighter than a regular steel sword like the one the Hound had, so that also gave her another advantage over him in the fight.

Yeah, Randyll Tarly gave Samwell an ultimatum: Either join the Nights Watch and give up your inheritance, or we'll go on a special hunting trip where you'll suffer a fatal "accident."

Spoiler:
True, but the Mountain could probably grab that sword and snap it in half lol. Plus, the Hound is most likely still wounded from the last fight.

Did they actually use the term "Robert Baratheon," as in "We're going to have you Robert Baratheon-ed"?

Since Sam was at The Wall before King Robert's "accident", I doubt it.

but I screwed up the allusion by putting "in" in.

Sigh. Wasn't that funny anyhoo.
