Bates Motel (S4E10) -- Season Finale -- "Norman" -- 5/16/16

The relationship between Norman and Norma faces its toughest test; Romero faces pressure due to his actions; and Dylan considers reaching out to Norman.

Already renewed through season 5

Why does Norma ride a 60's or 70's style Mercedes? Is that paying homage to the original film?

I thought those cars would be off the road by now.

Wow.

Bates Motel season 4 may be one of my favorite tv seasons ever. What a finale that was. It hurt a lot, and I wanted to go choke Norman out myself but that was quality TV right there. I am so glad I stuck with this show.

I am not really sure where season 5 is going to go, but I will be there.

We're starting to get the follow-up interviews with the producers. Next season will introduce Marion Crane (apparently in mulitple episodes).

I think Chick in is my favorite character on this. The weird dude who just pops up all the time in unxepected ways. Where's my dog? I can fix your stained glass window. Here's a chicken enchilada casserole.

I fully expect the goth mortician girl to be a new romantic interest for Norman.

I want the season to continue

Hope Norman goes all 5150 in Season 5 and we get a ton of Norma Bates flashbacks and hallucinations.

Now summer is close and there will be nothing good to watch on TV which is nothing new.

Outstanding finale to an outstanding season. This show is doing something rare....getting better the further it goes on. Can't wait for the final season.

Re: Bates Motel (S4E10) -- Season Finale -- "Norman" -- 5/16/16

I actually wish this had been the series finale. Most of it was rather predictable but delivered in perfect fashion. That was just about the best sucker punch in television history. I practically cheered when Norman got hit. I thought they dragged out the hallucinatory Norma reveal a bit too long but I understand keeping that for the final moments.

I don't have much interest in seeing how Romero's arrest turns out. Frankly, anyone that has seen Psycho should understand where most of these arcs are going.

Yeah, it did feel like it could have been a finale, apart from the Romero business.

Re: Bates Motel (S4E10) -- Season Finale -- "Norman" -- 5/16/16

I thought it was the series finale. Damn... this is going to feel like the last season of Babylon 5 where they end it twice.

I suspect Romero is just going to get a slap on the wrist sort of thing. Perjury is serious, but he can easily say he didn't that anything to get back to his new wife. And technically, it wasn't even that. What he did was violating the federal false statement statute since he wasn't under oath.

The most time he would get is 18 to 24 months, however the prosecution would have to that his relationship to her was "material" to her ultimate conviction and that by not revealing it somehow "obstructed" the investigation. Clearly they suspected him before they arrested her so hiding it wasn't material to the case.

Mostly likely he'd get just get fined or the case would be dropped. They want her since she is the embezzler. The Feds only get X amount of money to go after cases so they'd likely drop his case. It's more money than it's worth.

Maybe since he dug up the body he will have no use for her or that place.

I'm surprised they took it as far as they did. I totally expected the season to end on Norman slamming a shovel into the grave. Credits.

That's the one element of this season that would have made a far bigger impact if the writers had been setting it up for a couple of seasons. But they pretty much just threw them together at the beginning of this season, which supposedly only covered two or three weeks time.

It would have worked as a series finale if the show had been cancelled. There would still be loose ends (Dylan), but most of the central characters had been physically removed from Norman's life, so it would have been plausible to fill in the blanks between BM & Psycho.

Of course, they now have Creepy Woods Dude who knows Norman's secret.

And Juno.

I can see your point but the buildup was always there. It's just that he had to marry her in a pinch.

In hindsight, Romero always had a thing for her.

The build up was always there. They just finally got together this season out of urgency, but a man doesn't go killing folks for you if he don't love you. I've been waiting for those 2 to get together for ages; their chemistry was always amazing.

The fact that they were together together so briefly just makes it hurt worse...to me anyway.

Now the wait to see who will be cast as Marion Crane starts.

My prediction for season 5 is that Creepy Woods Dude will find Dylan and tell him Norman's secret and Norman will off both of them. I really thought Dylan was a goner this season instead of Norma.

Re: Bates Motel (S4E10) -- Season Finale -- "Norman" -- 5/16/16

Maybe they should have waited until the later stages of season 5 to kill off Norma.

Still seemed kind of shaky premise Norman did it the way he did so fast and he did not have the patience for Romero and Norma breaking up since they were eventually going to split since Norma was not happy Romero wanted Norman back in the hospital.

I really did think Dylan was a gonner as well. especially the previous episode.

I am glad he's still around for the time being. Emma needs a love interest. That poor girl

if they follow the movie (which i hear the producers said they won't be essentially 'remaking' the movie
Spoiler:
the movie's events take place some 10 years or so after Mother's death

Re: Bates Motel (S4E10) -- Season Finale -- "Norman" -- 5/16/16

after watching the original Psycho I always thought Norma did ALOT more awful things to Norman than what she did here. Sure, she was clingy and a little manipulative, but the movie made it seem like she was straight out raping Norman which is what really twisted him up inside.

Yeah in Psycho 1 & 4 they hint at that, but in Bates they never went for it. I actually thought that was what was going to happen when he crawled in bed with her near the end.

I was surprised as well they didn't go for the incest angle with Norman, but a lot of critical film analysis in academic circles reads Norman as a repressed homosexual in Psycho.
