What? I thought this was based on a book and a completed story adaptation.
I guess they could just have the Pine character do other missions, ala Bond, but it seems strange to call it the The Night Manager at that point.

Apology for slightly off topic, but that still could not be any worse than the show which kept calling itself "Quantico" but has absolutely nothing to do with it starting season 2.

Story says they don't even have a script yet. So it sounds like they are attempting to create original material for a 2nd season (if it happens)

Finally started it this evening via Amazon, and I watched the first few eps. It too slow for the wife as she fell asleep during the second ep, but I am enjoying it.

I finally finished The Night Manager off Amazon Prime last week. I had like 3 episodes left and powered through them. For those wondering, it was the Uncut version. Was initially planning to watch it on AMC, but got busy and distracted and I think I only watched 1 episode on TV.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a little slow with a lot of set up. I would say this was more of a cat and mouse spy thriller between Roper and Pine. Not much action, but I know that wasn't the point of it. It was basically a game of the 2 characters trying to outsmart each other.
Hugh Laurie was a good villain. It was a good change from him playing House for 8 years. I liked how he finally got apprehended at the end and also got the implied payback from the arms deal that went bad because of Pine.
I'm glad the series was available in it's uncut form for streaming and I didn't have to buy the BD. This is not the kind of series that has any replay value. Watching it once was more than enough.
I am curious how a potential 2nd season would work. Obviously it would be a completely original story with Hiddleston probably only returning.

By the time S2 airs, it'll be a 8 year gap between it and the first season. I don't remember much from the first season except that it was pretty slow that I was surfing the internet while watching.

Officially picked up for 2 seasons by BBC and Amazon since the last report a year ago. Hiddleston is returning and Hugh Laurie will be an Executive Producer.

The first season was excellent all around. I don't know if they'll be able to duplicate it, though, as the casting was top notch. Curious to see.

This announcement reminds me that I finally need to actually watch this. This is indeed a show that I have constantly said to myself I want to catch up but never seem to make the time. I am 100% aware that it is a fantastic show that is well worth my time, so perhaps I will make the effort soon. Knowing there is more to come after the first season always helps.

As I recall the first season was a fairly faithful adaptation of the John le Carré novel, and there aren't any sequel books so this will be pretty dependent on who they get to write it.
