Re: Vikings (History) -- Season 4 Discussion Thread -- premieres 2/18/15

Another 20 episode season? I assume that willl be split again?

I was hoping the extra episodes would be a good thing, but the story is not nearly as clean as the first couple of seasons. They really shoud try to tie up or streamline some of the storylines. I don't know if the additional plotlines are to fill the extra time or just how the story was planned, but I think they might be better off with a more streamlined plot even if it means fewer episodes.

Re: Vikings (History) -- Season 4 Discussion Thread -- premieres 2/18/15

Big yawn again. Ragnar is boring, random new viking king who wants to take out Ragnar but acts like he wants to go fighting, been there done that already. France stuff with Rollo is even more boring, and the England stuff is just as bad. If it wasn't for Lagertha and Bjorn I'd drop the show right now. I'll give it a few more episodes. 20 is just too much.

The uninspired French and English stuff bores me to tears. The entire story-line with the king sleeping with his daughter-in-law makes me instantly hit the skip button.

Yeah, I said several episodes back. There's no cohesiveness. It's just random plots strung together. I'll probably dump it too.

And where are the battles? That's what made the show so great. The pure chaos of the battles were well done.

So, what yall are saying is I shouldn't waste my time even starting this season?

I am daunted by the fact there will be at minimum 40 more episodes...

I'd probably give the first episode or two a shot, they are fairly representative of what we've seen the entire season. That would probably give you a better idea of how you would enjoy it.

Re: Vikings (History) -- Season 4 Discussion Thread -- premieres 2/18/15

Yep, the show got popular and pulled a "Sons of Anarchy" on us. Now it's all about the merch and flogging it to death whereas when it started out it was a well-crafted mix of Viking history and mythology. I'll still watch because Lagertha stirs my jimmies something fierce but this is no longer must watch TV and Ragnar is this close to getting the Gemma treatment with the 30-second skip button.

Re: Vikings (History) -- Season 4 Discussion Thread -- premieres 2/18/15

Was about to post the same thing.

I fear that the extra show orders (to 20) has become the equivalent of Sutter supersizing everything when SOA became more popular and not only is it not adding value, it is actually making things worse.

and because of the super-sized episode orders/split seasons. FOX/MGM now gets to sell 4 more Blu-Rays sets!! Season 4 Parts 1 and 2 and Season 5 Parts 1 and 2.

This weeks episode went completely off the rails. It's pretty much a scene in Paris with that chick getting chained and whipped, Ragnar getting high and tripping, and a complete shit show in between

^ don't forget the children getting sung to sleep and the wanderer coming back and getting a reaction from the kid. Lots of stuff happening.

Not exactly the best episode (or season) thus far.

like shooting ducks in a barrel. They should have watched Game of Thrones. And how did that one guy get the screwing women job? Nobody is worried that it will get back to their men that they have been sexed up by mystery guy. I'm just waiting for that one kid to kill him.

The mysterious stranger arc is one of the weirdest plot-lines in recent memory on television.

One theory is that the wanderer is a human form of Odin. One of the myths is he wandered around from village to village seducing women.

while there was more action in this episode, I just didn't care anymore. deleted it 1/2 way thru and deleted the season pass. I just don't like the direction this show has taken... too bad, because it was something I eagerly looked forward to a couple of seasons ago.

Never have I been so happy to see a character drowned in a river.

I basically had this episode on as background, but that was awesome. Only watched that and the boat transport.

Running out the string at this point and will delete the pass when this season is done. Just don't care. This show was so great and they ruined it.

You guys are crazy. The show has evolved, but it is still extremely well acted and very entertaining.

I'm still in. I just didn't like that one character.
