Re: The DVDTalk Survivor Game -- Spring 2016 Edition

I don't know if it's like this for anyone else, but I can upload a graphic and it takes a looooong time for it to finally refresh. Used to be I could refresh my browser and the new graphic would replace the old. Now I can refresh the browser, close the browser, watch a TV show, phone a friend...

In ANOTHER almost-Quack play, I'll take Joseph.

A little bummed that I missed out on Scot.

Re: The DVDTalk Survivor Game -- Spring 2016 Edition

It seems like we can improve on the the current method of the draft selection. Asking people to submit their picks at the exact assigned time may not work since the draft time may be inconvenient to some people and there are times when people just forget due to other commitments, and then there is the issue of how close can you get to submit the picks to beat the 9:00 pm clock.

I suggest for the next season we should consider adopting a simple method of submitting in advance our picks ranked 1-18 to Damfino by PM (or when we pay by PayPal) and then he can just use a random number generator to give each of us a draft order. He can go down our picks and assign them based on our draft order and what is available. A short computer program can easily be used to simplify this process.

You're new here, so you don't know the history. In short, we tried something like that once and most people didn't like it.

Re: The DVDTalk Survivor Game -- Spring 2016 Edition

I'm fine with the current method. I've gone father with people I've had to draft out of the scraps than the people I jumped on at 9pm. Either way it's cheap fun... gambling makes a good thing better.

Re: The DVDTalk Survivor Game -- Spring 2016 Edition

I'm OK with the current method as well, though I'm not diligent enough to figure out the timing to post right at the start time. And I sometimes miss the draft due to other commitments. Forgetting is not really a good reason, though. And as was mentioned, you can't accurately predict who's going to win. (I do feel that with TAR, it's a little easier to see who has no chance, but then again I won with the goat farmers.)

If Damfino wanted to deemphasize the clock synchronization as winky suggests, it'd be a lot simpler to just generate a random draft order in advance. When the draft starts, each person would pick in order. If the person doesn't pick within a minute after the last pick, then the next person can pick.

Person 1 selects at 6:00 p.m.
Person 2 selects at 6:00 p.m.
Person 3 selects at 6:00 p.m.
Person 4 selects at 6:01 p.m.
Person 5 selects at 6:02 p.m.
If the clock hits 6:04 p.m. and person 6 hasn't picked, person 7 can pick. (I didn't say 6:03, because if person 5 picks at 6:02:59, person 6 could be screwed after one second.)

Granted this system would still take some administration so the powers-at-be might find the current system less work.

Re: The DVDTalk Survivor Game -- Spring 2016 Edition

I'm fine with the current method and it gives everyone the most fair chance I think. It's hard to predict who will win these games especially when Denise won. She was the last player picked during her season.

It's not really a science. I work at a tv station and our clocks here are very very accurate.

This means you have an unfair advantage over people like us who do not work at a TV station. (just kidding)

I am okay with davidh777's proposal.
