Re: Lucifer (FOX) -- S: Tom Ellis -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 1/25/16
I was debating whether to start a S2 thread with this news. "Mom" will be played by *drum roll*
http://tvline.com/2016/06/21/tricia-...arlotte-devil/
Fox is hiring Tricia Helfer to do the devil’s work.
The Battlestar Galactica actress is joining Season 2 of Lucifer as the mother of Tom Ellis’ titular devil and D.B. Woodside’s Amenadiel, TVLine has learned. The Fox drama teed up the character’s introduction in April’s Season 1 finale. At the time, showrunner Joe Henderson told TVLine that whereas the show’s first season “was the story of a wayward son dealing with his father issues, Season 2 is Mom.”
Here’s the official character description for Mama D (or Charlotte, as she will be called): “Trapped in Hell for thousands of years by God (her ex-husband), the Mother of Angels is now free on Earth. Once reunited with Lucifer, it will become clear that she’s the one he takes after. Mom is fearless and has a strong conviction for who she is and what she deserves. However, mother and son do not share the same opinion when it comes to humanity. Everything that fascinates Lucifer about people repels Mom — a disdain that’s highlighted by that fact that Mom’s trapped in a human body for her stay on Earth. Lucifer’s desperate to find out what Mom’s up to, but she claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again. But can the devil’s mom really be that innocent?”

That sounds awful if that is the direction this show is going. I've always found Helfer wildly overrated in pretty much everything she's done.

Tricia Helfer could be forgiven if “What the hell?!” was her first reaction to being cast on Fox’s Lucifer as mother to both Tom Ellis and D.B. Woodside.
Obviously, the role of Charlotte is “going to have its challenges,” the actress acknowledged with a laugh when TVLine spoke to her at this week’s Saturn Awards. “I heard it put, ‘She’s not really that much older [than Lucifer and Amenadiel].’ But it will all make sense once you see it.”
The Battlestar Galactica alumna has only read the first two episodes and is afraid of “giving too much away” about her character, who’s been trapped in Hell for thousands of years by her ex-husband, God. “But,” Helfer allow, “very quickly once you meet her, you realize what she’s about and who she is. So we’re not going to leave people guessing. There’s been enough of that with the concern that she’s escaped from Hell.”
The official description of Charlotte notes that she “claims that all she wants is to spend time with her sons again. But can the devil’s mom really be that innocent?” As if to answer that very question, Helfer says, “There are a lot of layers to her. She’s going to be fun to play.” (With reporting by Vlada Gelman)

I'm neutral on the casting. I haven't watched a lot of her work. Thougth she was good in what I saw of her in Dark Blue and BSG, but wasn't really into those shows themselves. I'm more concerned about the impact of the new character on the dynamic of the show than the casting choice.

Family portrait.
Tricia Helfer apparently made a mother of a first impression on Lucifer producers: Just weeks after she was first cast as the mother of Tom Ellis’ titular devil and D.B. Woodside’s Amenadiel, the actress has already been promoted to a full-fledged series regular, TVLine has learned.
The exclusive image of Helfer alongside Ellis and Woodside underscores the fact that mom essentially falls into the same demo as her two sons. “I heard it put, ‘She’s not really that much older [than Lucifer and Amenadiel],’ the Battlestar vet assured TVLine. “But it will all make sense once you see it.”
Helfer — who will debut in Lucifer’s Season 2 premiere on Monday, Sept. 19 at 9/8c — went on to tease that viewers will “very quickly” realize what the deal is with Charlotte, who’s been trapped in Hell for thousands of years by her ex-husband, God, “We’re not going to leave people guessing. There’s been enough of that with the concern that she’s escaped from Hell.”

I don't mind Tricia. She's easy on the eyes and I don't think she's a bad actress. Although with 2 female regulars (her and Lauren German) it's going to be a struggle having them fight for screen time with Ellis.

Exactly. The picture was mother and sons. I think she should have been standing and the two sitting, but also recognize Ellis is the star.
At what point do we create a season 2 thread?

Just found the show and bingeing my way through season 1 now with only a couple left. I noticed Season 4 or so is on Netflix. Do we start getting some nudity at that point? Just curious as this show season one at least seems it should have been made by a network that allows more unseemly things to be aired.

Mostly unrelated, S4 was my favorite of the series (so far).
