Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I really liked that this show is grounded and not the standard sitcom tripe. During the women's rights bar scene I was expecting the standard he say something offensive at the end of the night and hilarity ensues.

Went through all 10 episodes last night and I really enjoyed it.

It also made me almost cry a few times

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

Because of the extremely glowing reviews, I watched the first episode. Both me and my wife thought it was pretty awful and were baffled by the positive press this is getting. Is the first episode just not indicative of the rest?

I hated the first episode but stuck with it due to the praise here. Pretty much liked the next three. I might watch more if I'm wanting background noise, but I won't go out of my way for it.

It does get better as it goes along, and some episodes are better than others, but not by that much. If you thought it was "pretty awful", then the rest would be "decent" for you, at best.

this is a show with quiet comedic moments.. I enjoy it, but it's got a nice slow pace to it.. draw you in with a good heart and some laughs...

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I plowed through the 10 episodes this weekend.

As mentioned, the show really does get better as it goes along. It started off kinda blah... but then I warmed up to the concept and feel of the show. The comedy is light (in a good way), the characters can be charming and the show has a lot of heart. Normally "couples scenes" don't do well, but I thought the conversations were interesting and had some reality to them. I really liked the Nashville episode.

I did find some of the acting to be sub-par. I was wondering why they cast those people as his parents, and only found out when it was over that they're played by his real parents. The father's kinda funny, but the mother looks bored and has no emotion. I also found his Asian and lesbian friends to have some poorly delivered lines.

I didn't know Rachel was on SNL (don't really watch much), but she's cute. I thought she had a bit of a Zooey Deschanel vibe going - and doing some searches for Noel Wells, I noticed Zooey is one of her imitations.

I'm up for another season. I suspect the concept will probably be good for a 3 season run as I think anything more than that and the concept will have grown stale and probably become repetitive.

The only other show I've seen shot in the ratio was the pilot episode of Onion News Network (oddly enough, directed by The Final Girls' Todd Strauss-Schulson).
No it shouldnt be an issue. I didn't even notice anyway.

Kudos to Asiz for also casting a diversity of people (even though some of them are not so great actors).
I really disliked the first ep, it was tough t o get through. paused it and watched the rest a few days later then went right through all ten eps.

I watched the first season over the past several days. I liked it and I thought Aziz had good chemistry with Noel Wells. I thought the Parents and Old People episodes were very heart warming.

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I don't know why this show felt so unessential. I saw Netflix pushing it when it came out, but I was not pressed to watch it. Well, I watched it and think this show is incredible. I do think it helps that I'm in the age range of these characters, but I just found this shows approach to situations to be really genuine and not obvious.

The bit about Short Circuit blew my mind too.

Just finished watching episode 2 of the second season. It was great. Loved the first one in black and white and with the silent film credits at the beginning.

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I only watched the first episode of the 2nd season, but thought it was great.

A nice nod to old Italian films... a little Fellini with a big dose of De Sica thrown in (almost had a Bicycle Thieves thing happening there).

Huge credit to Aziz - his Italian pronunciations are MUCH better than they should be for someone who just learned a little Italian in a short period of time.

First episode was great. "The First Date" was good, but... depressingly accurate. Loved the Kraftwerk intro.

Re: Master of None - Aziz Ansari Netflix Comedy - Series Thread

I just watched the entire 2nd season. I loved the first season and this season is better! I love his character, his friend Arnold, and his love interest. I wish there were more episodes. And yes, the Thanksgiving episode is awesome. I think I'll have to watch both seasons in one sitting soon.
